Job Description

The role is responsible for the initiation, development and timely completion of packaging design projects for the Industrial Sector product lines. Included within the framework of these duties are cost/benefit analysis of new and existing packaging concepts, evaluation and presentation of alternative designs, tooling development and production release. This position is responsible for assisting all Industrial sector facilities and vendors in troubleshooting packaging problems and design of new product packaging. • Assist the timely development of new and existing primary and secondary packaging through concept, design, testing, tooling and pilot production in accordance with cost specifications and coordinates these efforts with international company and vendor resources for all Industrial Business
• Packaging should cost techniques (Corrugated, steel, wood, plastic, etc)
• Define value stream mapping for projects/ processes
• Financial analysis of packaging projects
• Develop standards for packaging
• Develop others in packaging design
• Evaluate end to end value chain for total cost of ownership opportunities
• Create and maintain packaging specifications for primary and secondary packaging
• Prepare Engineering Change Orders for packaging related portions of new Bills of Material (BOM) on new items, any packaging related revisions to BOMs, and any revisions of packaging components.
• Work with graphics designers and marketing functions to create, review and approve packaging artwork suitable for mass production that include all required markings for electrical and trade compliance.
• Maintain central data system and templates for packaging labels that is used for production in all Wiring Devices plants as well as major suppliers.
• Maintain communication with the Engineering, Product Management, Marketing, Operations, Sourcing and Manufacturing departments to ensure the timely development and introduction of new packaging and efficient maintenance of existing packaging.
• Carries out package reviews and evaluates performance tests of all packaging to ensure successful completion of the assignment.
• Assist with identification of new materials and processes which would improve product packaging and/or cost.
• Work with Eaton Distribution Centers and create pallet patterns to maintain optimal efficiency for storage and transport
• To Approve & Re-Approve PPAP for Packaging.
• Evaluating of new technologies in packaging & material handling
• Supporting technical analysis, evaluation, recommendation, and implementation of packaging materials design and configurations
• Working with supplier quality & development function in supporting package performance including, documentation, communication, analysis, trouble-shooting, and follow-up
• Identifying, evaluating, and implementing packaging innovation to align with company objectives and customer needs including cost, performance, functionality and design
• Sharing best practices, maintaining central data repository by supplier, commodity etc.,

Qualifications

Educational Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree/Post-Graduate Diploma in Packaging from an accredited institution required.

Technical qualifications:

• Minimum of 7-14 years of experience in packaging role
• Hands on experience on packaging design tools like Artios CAD, 3D CAD software
• Experience in process development
• Experience with SAP or other large enterprise data systems
• Ability to work on multiple projects with tight timelines
• Good technical competence and packaging component knowledge
• Experience with Microsoft Office, and production engineering support – emphasis on Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, filters, formulas)
