The Section In-Charge - Environment is responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, maintaining statutory documentation, driving sustainability initiatives, and monitoring environmental performance across the plant. The role ensures effective implementation of pollution control systems, waste management practices, environmental monitoring, and continual improvement initiatives aligned with JSL's ESG goals.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Regulatory Compliance & Reporting
Ensure 100% compliance with
CPCB, HSPCB, MoEFCC
, and other statutory environmental regulations.
Maintain and update all environmental records, returns, and registers (Air, Water, Hazardous Waste, Cess, EPR, etc.).
Prepare and file documents such as
and other compliance reports.
Coordinate for inspections, audits, and regulatory body visits.
B. Environmental Monitoring & Control
Monitor emission levels, effluent quality, ambient air, noise, and waste parameters as per environmental standards.
Ensure efficient operation and upkeep of
pollution control equipment
including Bag Filters, ESPs, Wet Scrubbers, ETP/STP, and Waste Handling Units.
Coordinate with third-party laboratories for sampling and analysis.
Conduct internal environmental audits and housekeeping inspections.
C. Waste & Resource Management
Oversee proper segregation, storage, handling, and disposal of
hazardous and non-hazardous wastes
.
Monitor compliance of waste transporters, recyclers, and co-processing partners.
Drive initiatives related to
waste minimization, water recycling, energy efficiency
, and resource conservation.
Manage records for hazardous waste tracking, manifest documentation, and scrap/waste movement.
D. Sustainability & ESG Initiatives
Support implementation of
ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System
- documentation, audits, corrective actions, awareness trainings.
Participate in corporate
ESG, Net-Zero, and climate action initiatives
, including data collection and reporting.
Promote green practices, plantation drives, environmental awareness programs, and skill development initiatives within the plant.
E. Cross-Functional Coordination
Work closely with
Production, Quality, Safety, Engineering, CSR, and Admin
teams to address environmental requirements.
Support environmental preparedness for new projects, plant expansions, and modifications.
Assist in preparation of environmental data for customers, audits, and certifications.
F. People & Process Management
Supervise a team of operators/technicians managing ETP, STP, waste handling, and compliance tasks.
Prepare shift planning, task allocation, and performance tracking for team members.
Identify training needs and ensure capability development in environmental practices.
3. Qualification & Experience
Education
B.Tech / M.Tech in
Environmental Engineering
, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
Experience
4-8 years
of experience in environmental management, preferably in a
steel / metal / process manufacturing industry
.
Knowledge of environmental laws, waste management, compliance systems, and ISO 14001.

5. Work Environment
Based at
Hisar plant
with routine field visits to process units, ETP/STP areas, waste yards, and monitoring stations.

Includes responsibility for on-call environmental responses as needed.
