Manager - Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I)

Role Purpose
The

Electrical & Instrumentation Manager

is responsible for

end-to-end management of electrical systems, instrumentation, automation, and control systems

across the glass manufacturing plant. The role ensures

safe, reliable, energy-efficient, and compliant operation

of all E&I assets supporting continuous glass production, utilities, and auxiliary systems.

Key Responsibilities
1. Electrical Systems ManagementManage

HT/LT power distribution systems

, substations, transformers, switchgear, MCCs, PCCs, VFDs, UPS, and DG sets Ensure uninterrupted power supply for

critical glass manufacturing processes

(furnace, batch house, tin bath, annealing lehr, cutting & packing lines) Plan and execute

preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance

for electrical equipment Ensure compliance with

statutory electrical safety norms

and periodic inspections


2. Instrumentation & Control SystemsOversee installation, calibration, and maintenance of

process instruments

including: + Temperature, pressure, flow, level, gas analyzers
+ Weighing systems, batch control instruments
Manage

PLC, SCADA, DCS, HMI systems

for process automation Ensure accurate process control for

quality consistency, energy efficiency, and yield optimization

Lead troubleshooting of automation and instrumentation failures impacting production


3. Automation & Digital IntegrationLead automation upgrades and system integration for

new lines, capacity expansion, or modernization projects

Coordinate with OEMs, system integrators, and internal teams for automation enhancements Drive initiatives on

Industry 4.0, data acquisition, and plant digitalization

(where applicable) Ensure cybersecurity and access control for automation systems


4. Project Engineering & ExecutionLead E&I scope for

greenfield and brownfield projects

, including: + Design reviews, BOQs, technical specifications
+ Vendor selection and FAT/SAT activities
Ensure timely execution within

cost, safety, and quality benchmarks

Coordinate with mechanical, civil, and process engineering teams


5. Energy Management & OptimizationMonitor and optimize

power consumption, load management, and energy efficiency

Support implementation of

energy conservation projects

(VFDs, power factor improvement, automation logic optimization) Support compliance with energy audits and regulatory requirements


6. Safety, Compliance & StandardsEnsure adherence to

electrical safety, EHS, and statutory compliance

requirements Implement

LOTO, electrical safety procedures, and SOPs

Support audits related to safety, quality, and compliance Lead root cause analysis for major electrical/instrumentation incidents


7. Team Leadership & Capability BuildingLead and develop a team of

Electrical Engineers, Instrumentation Engineers, Technicians, and Supervisors

Plan skill development, training, and competency enhancement programs Build strong shift coverage and on-call support for continuous plant operations Foster a culture of

ownership, safety, and continuous improvement




8. Vendor & Stakeholder ManagementManage OEMs, AMC partners, contractors, and service providers Ensure quality spares planning, inventory control, and cost optimization Coordinate with production, quality, maintenance, and EHS teams


Key Deliverables / OutcomesHigh availability and reliability of

E&I systems

Minimal downtime due to electrical or automation failures Safe, compliant, and energy-efficient plant operations Successful execution of E&I projects and upgrades Strong technical capability and engagement within the E&I team


Qualifications & Experience
Educational Qualification

B.E./B.Tech in Electrical / Instrumentation / Electronics Engineering

Postgraduate qualification in automation or power systems is an added advantage

Experience

10-15 years

of relevant experience in

glass manufacturing / continuous process industry


(Glass, cement, steel, power, chemicals, or similar heavy industries)
Strong exposure to

furnace-based operations

preferred Experience in

plant commissioning, shutdowns, and expansion projects




Technical CompetenciesHT/LT systems, substations, switchgear, power distribution PLC / SCADA / DCS systems (Siemens, ABB, Schneider, Rockwell, etc.) Process instrumentation & calibration Automation logic troubleshooting Energy management systems Electrical safety standards & statutory compliance


Behavioral & Leadership CompetenciesStrong problem-solving and analytical skills Ownership mindset with hands-on leadership approach Ability to work under pressure in continuous operations Cross-functional collaboration Safety-first attitude and discipline
