A boiler operator with maintenance responsibilities in an herbal manufacturing facility works a 12-hour shift encompassing both the operation of boiler systems for herbal processing (which requires steam/heat) and the performance of routine and preventive maintenance to ensure safety and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
A) Operation:
1. Operate and monitor high-pressure boilers and auxiliary equipment (pumps, fans, fuel systems) during the assigned 12-hour shift.
2. Adjust controls (fuel, air, water, steam pressure) to maintain optimal temperature, pressure, and efficiency for the specific needs of herbal manufacturing processes.
3. Monitor gauges, meters, and control systems, and respond promptly to alarms or emergency situations.
4. Ensure a continuous and appropriate supply of fuel (gas, oil, biomass) to keep the boiler running.
B) Maintenance & Repair:
1.Perform regular inspections of boilers, valves, piping, and other components to identify and troubleshoot issues quickly, minimizing downtime.
2.Conduct preventative maintenance tasks, such as cleaning equipment, lubricating parts, and replacing worn components (e.g., valves, filters, gaskets).
3.Perform minor repairs on pipes and fittings as needed.
4.Conduct regular water quality testing and chemical treatment to prevent corrosion and scale buildup, a critical task for boiler longevity.
5.Coordinate with the main maintenance team for major repairs or planned shutdowns.
C) Safety & Compliance:
1.Adhere strictly to all established safety procedures, guidelines, and industry regulations (e.g., IBR in India).
2.Perform daily safety checks, including testing safety valves and emergency shutdown systems.
3.Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), such as hard hats, safety glasses, and gloves.
4.Ensure compliance with environmental regulations regarding emissions and waste disposal.
D)Record-Keeping & Communication:
1.Maintain accurate, detailed logs of boiler operations, meter readings, fuel consumption, water test results, and all maintenance activities and repairs.
2.Complete daily reports and ensure a clear handover of information regarding operational status and any uncompleted tasks to the next shift operator.
Work Environment & Schedule: The role typically involves working a 12-hour shift schedule (which may include nights, weekends, and holidays) in an industrial setting that can be noisy and warm. The job requires physical stamina, the ability to work in confined spaces, and strong problem-solving skills to manage complex mechanical systems.
Qualifications & Skills:
