Job Description

Pre-Operative:

Prepare the operating room, sanitize equipment, check supplies, and assist the surgical team in scrubbing, gowning, and gloving.

Intra-Operative:

Maintain a strict sterile field, pass instruments, sutures, and sponges to surgeons, remove charred tissue, and manage surgical equipment.

Safety & Accountability:

Perform meticulous counts of sponges, needles, and instruments with the circulating nurse before, during, and after surgery to ensure nothing is left inside the patient.

Post-Operative:

Assist with cleaning and disinfecting the surgical site, and clearing instruments to prepare for the next case.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Education:

Registered Nurse (RN) license; certification in perioperative nursing (e.g., CNOR) is often preferred.

Experience:

Previous experience in an operating room setting is typically required.

Skills:

Exceptional knowledge of sterile techniques, high attention to detail, strong communication, multitasking abilities, and the capacity to work under pressure.

Physical Stamina:

Ability to stand for long periods and handle the physical demands of surgery.
