Imperium Commodity Search is working exclusively with a global multi-commodity physical trading house looking to add a back to back scrap metal trader to their team in Mumbai. This position is newly created and critical to the launch of their new non-ferrous scrap trading desk in India. Our client has established trading desks set up across soft and agricultural commodities, coal and energy across London, Africa, India and Singapore. This opportunity suits a trader who is self sufficient and understands the entire trading value chain through sourcing, sales, distribution, contracts and operations/logistics who can establish, grow and run a profitable scrap metal (non ferrous) trading desk.
Responsibilities:

• Manage the back to back trading desks and be PnL responsible across the scrap metal trading book
• Drive new relationships with suppliers managing scrap metal procurement and sourcing activity across all base / non ferrous metals (tin, lead, nickel, zinc, aluminium, copper etc.) with a particular focus on aluminium
• Actively develop business with customers/clients for the sale of base metal scrap materials
• Stay up to date with market advisory/analysis to capitalise on trading opportunity in the scrap metal space
• Manage the shipping/logistics of your trading activity in conjunction with an experienced back office and administration team in India
• Ensure beneficial payment terms and contracts with counterparties in the non ferrous scrap space
• Represent the company at international trade exhibitions/conferences and generate beneficial relationships in the scrap metal space
• Grow and market the desk from the beginning, increasing market share and driving increased revenues across the sale of non ferrous scrap metals (aluminium, copper, lead, tin, nickel, zinc, etc)
• Work with government officials/agencies on import agreements and support where required
• Manage relationships with ports/shipping merchants and charterers

Experience:

• 5 or more years' experience in a back to back scrap metal trading role (non ferrous/aluminium scrap)
• Excellent knowledge of the scrap trading market in India and surrounding geography
• Good understanding of aluminium scrap trade flows/routes
• Experienced in logistics/operations of metal products
• Ability to travel frequently to meet with clients/suppliers
• Fluent in English
