Job Summary:



We are seeking a dedicated, organized, and safety-conscious Science Lab Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of our science laboratories (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology), ensuring they are well-maintained, resourced, and safe for students and staff. This role involves preparing materials for practical classes, assisting teachers, managing inventory, and upholding all safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:



Laboratory Preparation & Setup:

Accurately prepare chemical solutions, reagents, microbiological media, specimens, and apparatus required for practical classes and demonstrations across Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Set up and test laboratory equipment before scheduled practical sessions to ensure functionality.

Maintenance & Organization:

Maintain the cleanliness, tidiness, and organization of all science laboratories, prep rooms, and storage areas. Regularly clean, maintain, and ensure the proper functioning of all laboratory equipment, glassware, and instruments. Perform minor repairs or arrange for external servicing when necessary.

Inventory Management & Procurement:

Manage and maintain an accurate inventory of all chemicals, reagents, biological specimens, equipment, and consumables. Monitor stock levels, anticipate needs, and assist in the procurement of laboratory supplies, ensuring cost-effectiveness and adherence to budget. Ensure proper storage, handling, and labeling of all materials according to safety regulations.

Safety & Compliance:

Ensure strict adherence to all health and safety protocols, guidelines, and school policies within the laboratories. Oversee the safe handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals, biological waste, and other hazardous materials according to established procedures (e.g., COSHH, CLEAPSS, or equivalent local guidelines). Maintain and update Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and other safety-related documentation. Conduct regular safety checks of lab equipment, emergency eyewash stations, fire extinguishers, and first aid kits.

Technical Support & Assistance:

Provide technical assistance and support to science teachers during practical lessons and demonstrations. Assist students with the safe and proper use of laboratory equipment and techniques, under the guidance of the teacher. Troubleshoot minor technical issues with lab equipment during classes.

Record Keeping:

Maintain accurate records of experiments conducted, equipment usage, maintenance schedules, inventory logs, and safety incidents.

Professional Development:

Stay updated with current best practices in laboratory management, safety procedures, and new lab techniques relevant to school science education.

Required Qualifications & Skills:



A Bachelor's degree or Diploma in a relevant science field (e.g., Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Laboratory Technology, or Applied Science). Proven experience (typically 1-2+ years) working as a lab technician, preferably in an educational institution (school or college). Strong practical knowledge of standard laboratory procedures, equipment, and safety protocols across Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Ability to prepare chemical solutions and biological specimens accurately and safely. Excellent organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently. Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with teachers, students, and other staff. Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., MS Office for record keeping and inventory management). A proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to maintaining a safe learning environment.

Preferred Qualifications:



Experience working in a CBSE affiliated school. First Aid certification. Knowledge of specific laboratory software or inventory management systems.
