JOB DESCRIPTION - SCHOOL BUS DRIVER

Position Title: School Bus Driver

Department: Transport Department

Reports To: Transport Manager / Admin Officer

1. Position Overview

The School Bus Driver is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of students to and from school and school-related activities. The driver must ensure student safety, follow assigned routes, maintain the vehicle in good condition, and comply with all traffic and school transport regulations.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Daily Transport Operations

Drive the school bus safely on assigned routes as per the timetable. Ensure punctual pick-up and drop-off of students at designated stops. Follow all traffic laws, speed limits, and school transport policies. Always maintain smooth and responsible driving.
B. Student Safety & Conduct

Ensure all students board and exit the bus safely. Assist younger students during boarding when required. Ensure students remain seated and behave safely during transit. Report any behavioural issues or safety concerns to the Transport Manager.
C. Vehicle Safety & Maintenance

Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections (brakes, lights, tires, fuel, etc.). Keep the bus clean, both interior and exterior. Report mechanical issues or defects immediately. Ensure that emergency exits, fire extinguishers, and first-aid kits are functional.
D. Compliance

Follow all RTO guidelines and school transportation safety rules. Maintain valid driving license and required transport permits. Adhere to speed governors, GPS regulations, and CCTV guidelines. Avoid using mobile phones or engaging in any unsafe behaviour while driving.
E. Communication & Coordination

Communicate route delays, accidents, or emergencies promptly to the Transport Manager. Coordinate with bus attendants for student safety. Maintain a friendly and respectful attitude toward students, parents, and staff.

3. Required Qualifications

Valid Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV) License / Transport License (as per state law). Minimum 3 years of safe driving experience (school experience preferred). Knowledge of local routes and traffic rules. Basic literacy to maintain vehicle logs.

4. Skills & Competencies

Safe driving skills and strong sense of responsibility. Patience and ability to manage children calmly. Good communication and teamwork skills. Ability to respond appropriately during emergencies.

5. Working Conditions

Early morning and afternoon duty timings. Weekend/holiday duties during school events or trips (if assigned). Exposure to traffic, weather, and road conditions.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: ₹10,000.00 - ₹20,000.00 per month
