The School Nurse promotes the health, safety, and well-being of students and staff within a school setting. This role involves providing direct nursing services, managing chronic health conditions, responding to medical emergencies, and supporting overall health education and disease prevention programs.
Key Responsibilities
1. Direct Student Care
Provide first aid, emergency care, and routine health services.
Assess and manage acute illnesses and injuries.
Administer medications in accordance with school policies and physician orders.
Monitor and support students with chronic conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, seizures).
Maintain accurate and confidential health records.
2. Health Management & Compliance
Develop and implement individual healthcare plans (IHPs) and emergency action plans (EAPs).
Conduct state-required health screenings (vision, hearing, scoliosis, etc.).
Ensure compliance with immunization requirements and maintain immunization records.
Communicate with parents/guardians about student health needs.
QualificationsEducation & Licensure
Registered Nurse (RN) license required; BSN preferred.
State School Nurse certification (where applicable).
CPR/AED certification.
