As a Sales Executive in a publishing house, you will be responsible for promoting and selling books to various channels, including bookstores, distributors, online retailers, educational institutions, and libraries. The role involves identifying new sales opportunities, maintaining client relationships, meeting revenue targets, and helping the publisher expand its market presence.
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Business Development
Promote and sell books (print & digital) to retailers, wholesalers, schools, colleges, libraries, and online platforms.
Achieve monthly/quarterly/yearly sales targets.
Explore new markets, including regional and international opportunities.
Client Relationship Management
Build and maintain strong relationships with booksellers, distributors, and institutional buyers.
Provide product information, updates on new releases, and promotional materials.
Negotiate pricing, discounts, and sales terms.
Market Research & Strategy
Identify sales trends, competitor activities, and reader demand.
Suggest strategies to increase market share for specific genres or titles.
Work with the marketing team to plan book launches, campaigns, and author events.
Reporting & Coordination
Maintain sales records and prepare regular reports for management.
Coordinate with editors, marketing, and distribution teams to ensure smooth availability of stock.
Collect feedback from clients and market to improve publishing decisions.
Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree (preferably in Business, Marketing, Publishing, or Literature).
Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
Passion for books, reading habits, and the publishing industry.
Ability to meet sales targets and work independently.
Familiarity with online sales channels (Amazon, Flipkart, institutional e-platforms) is a plus.
Willingness to travel for client meetings, book fairs, and events.
