Role Overview / Purpose
As a Sales Development Representative at ZapUp, you will be responsible for generating and qualifying new business opportunities. You will be the first point of contact for many prospects, working to spark interest, uncover needs, and pass qualified leads to the Account Executive / sales team for closure.
You'll play a key role in fueling the top of the sales funnel, helping scale ZapUp's growth by finding new customers in target markets.
Key Responsibilities
Prospecting & Lead Generation
Use outbound methods (cold calls, emails, outreach, social media) to identify and connect with potential customers
Research target industries, companies, and decision-makers to build prospect lists
Respond to and qualify inbound leads from marketing campaigns, website signups, events
Lead Qualification & Discovery
Engage with prospects to understand their pain points, needs, budget, and decision timelines
Disqualify leads that don't fit, and nurture those that might in the future
Appointment Setting
Prepare and brief the sales team with context, insights, and background on the lead
Ensure smooth handoff so that sales cycles can proceed efficiently
Pipeline & CRM Management
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in CRM (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot, etc.)
Log all interactions, follow-ups, next actions, and lead statuses
Track metrics (calls, emails, meetings booked, conversion rates) and report progress
Collaboration & Feedback
Work closely with Marketing to align messaging, campaigns, content, and targeting
Provide feedback on outreach strategies, messaging, objection handling
Participate in sales training, role playing, and continuous improvement
Additional Tasks
May assist with smaller deals or pilot customers (as allowed)
Support trade shows, webinars, events with lead follow-up
Help with campaign follow-ups, nurturing sequences
Requirements / Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree (e.g., in Business, Marketing, Engineering, or related) or equivalent experience
Experience: 1-2 years (or more) in sales, business development, or lead generation roles
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Comfort with outreach, cold calling, and handling rejection
Excellent listening and questioning skills to uncover prospect needs
Ability to quickly learn about ZapUp's products, use cases, and differentiators
Experience with CRM / sales tools (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot, Outreach, etc.)
Self-motivated, target-driven, with strong time-management and organizational skills
Resilience, persistence, and ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment
Analytical mindset -- ability to track metrics, test different outreach methods, optimize performance
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
Experience working in B2B SaaS / software sales environment
Exposure to the automation, workflow, or integration tools space
Experience in working with startups or scale-ups
Multilingual or ability to engage clients in different geographies
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) / Metrics
Number of outbound calls / emails / outreach attempts
Number of qualified leads generated
Conversion ratio from lead to appointment / discovery call
Meeting / demo bookings per period
Lead-to-opportunity conversion rate
Pipeline value created
Accuracy and completeness of CRM data
