Process Safety & Green Chemistry Officer

Job Purpose:



To ensure safe chemical handling and process safety in the plant through Green Chemistry practices, HAZOP studies, and Process Safety Management systems -- enhancing overall operational safety, risk mitigation, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities:



Implement Green Chemistry practices, including Class A/B/C chemical classifications across plant operations. Lead and conduct

HAZOP (Hazard and Operability)

studies for process and plant safety analysis. Develop, implement, and maintain

Process Safety Management (PSM)

systems as per industry and statutory standards.

Identify, assess, and manage process risks

through structured risk management frameworks. Ensure strict compliance with

DISH

(Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health) and

MPCB

(Maharashtra Pollution Control Board) requirements, including timely submissions on their respective portals. Collaborate closely with Production, QC, and EHS teams to integrate safety protocols into daily operations. Conduct

training sessions

for plant staff on process safety, risk awareness, and behavior-based safety practices. Provide feedback and corrective action plans based on

observed human behaviors

that may contribute to operational risks. Ensure proper implementation and monitoring of

safety interlocks

and controls for critical chemical reactions. Prepare and present

risk assessment reports

, incident analyses, and process improvement recommendations to management.

Qualifications:



Education:



B.E./B.Tech in Chemical Engineering or M.Sc. in Chemistry (Chemical Engineering preferred).

Certifications:



HAZOP / Process Safety certifications desirable.

Experience:



2-5 years of experience in

process safety, risk management, or chemical plant operations

in the chemical industry. Proven experience in

conducting HAZOP studies

, managing high-risk processes, and implementing corrective safety measures. Exposure to

Green Chemistry principles, PSM frameworks, and regulatory submissions

to DISH/MPCB preferred. Experience in handling

critical reactions and safety interlocks

in process plants.

Skills & Competencies:



Strong understanding of

chemical process safety, risk management, and hazard identification

. Hands-on experience in

HAZOP methodology and PSM standards

. Familiarity with

regulatory compliance and portal submissions (DISH/MPCB)

. Good observation and feedback skills related to

human behavior and operational risk

. Effective communicator with strong reporting, analytical, and training capabilities. Proficiency in

MS Office and safety analysis tools

.

Successful implementation of

HAZOP and Green Chemistry recommendations

Compliance with DISH and MPCB submissions

within stipulated timelines. Continuous

reduction in process safety incidents and near misses

. Improved

risk awareness and safety behavior

among plant personnel. Strengthened

for critical process safety operations.
