The Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring a safe and healthy working environment within the garment factory by implementing occupational health and safety policies, conducting inspections, preventing accidents, and ensuring compliance with local labor laws, buyer requirements, and international safety standards.
Ensure compliance with local labor laws, fire safety regulations, and occupational health & safety standards
Implement and monitor factory safety policies and procedures
Ensure compliance with buyer codes of conduct (e.g., BSCI, SEDEX, WRAP, SA-8000)
2. Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment
Identify workplace hazards related to machinery, electrical systems, chemicals, fire, and ergonomics
Conduct regular risk assessments and recommend corrective actions
Ensure safe machine guarding and proper equipment maintenance
3. Fire Safety & Emergency Preparedness
Maintain fire safety equipment (fire extinguishers, alarms, hydrants, emergency lights)
Ensure clear emergency exits and proper signage
Conduct fire drills and emergency evacuation drills regularly
Coordinate with local fire authorities when required
4. Training & Awareness
Conduct safety induction training for new employees
Provide regular safety training for workers and supervisors
Promote safety awareness through posters, meetings, and toolbox talks
5. Accident Investigation & Reporting
Investigate accidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions
Prepare accident reports and recommend preventive measures
Maintain records of incidents, injuries, and corrective actions
6. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Ensure proper use and availability of PPE (gloves, masks, earplugs, safety shoes, etc.)
Monitor PPE compliance across all production areas
7. Factory Inspections & Audits
Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly safety inspections
Prepare for internal and external safety audits
Follow up on corrective action plans (CAPs)
8. Health & Hygiene
Monitor workplace cleanliness, ventilation, lighting, and sanitation
Ensure compliance with health and hygiene standards in production and welfare facilities
Qualifications & Requirements
Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or related field
Safety Officer certification (as per local regulations)
Minimum 2-5 years of experience in a garment or manufacturing factory
Knowledge of fire safety, electrical safety, and machine safety
Familiarity with buyer compliance and audit requirements
Good communication and report-writing skills
