Job Description

A Safety Officer in an LPG bottling plant

ensures facility and personnel safety by developing and enforcing safety programs, conducting risk assessments, performing inspections, and providing training on LPG handling and emergency response. They also investigate accidents, ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards, manage safety documentation, and promote a strong safety culture to prevent injuries and hazards. Key Responsibilities

Safety Program Development:

Create, maintain, and update safety policies, procedures, and programs tailored to the specific hazards of LPG handling, storage, and bottling.

Risk Assessment & Hazard Identification:

Conduct comprehensive risk assessments, identify potential hazards associated with LPG, and implement mitigation strategies.

Inspections & Audits:

Perform regular inspections of the plant, equipment, work practices, and safety equipment (e.g., firefighting systems, emergency stop buttons) to ensure compliance.

Training & Awareness:

Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees covering safe work procedures, the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and emergency response protocols for incidents like leaks or fires.

Incident Investigation:

Investigate workplace accidents and near misses to determine root causes, implement corrective actions, and prevent recurrence.

Regulatory Compliance:

Ensure the plant operates in full compliance with all relevant national and local occupational safety and health (OSH) regulations and standards.

Emergency Preparedness:

Advise on, organize, and participate in emergency drills and mock exercises to ensure preparedness for potential LPG-related emergencies.

Documentation & Record-Keeping:

Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incident investigations, training provided, and equipment status, which are necessary for reporting and compliance.

Promote Safety Culture:

Foster and maintain a positive safety culture through campaigns, safety committees, and consistent communication of safety information to all staff.

Essential Qualifications & Skills



Technical Knowledge:

In-depth knowledge of LPG properties, hazards, handling procedures, and relevant safety techniques like HAZOP (Hazard and Operability study), HIRA (Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment), and JSA (Job Safety Analysis).

Emergency Response Skills:

Proficiency in using emergency equipment, such as fire extinguishers and other safety apparatus.

Technical Education:

A degree in Engineering (preferably Fire & Safety) or a related field, along with relevant safety certifications or a diploma in Fire and Safety, is often preferred or required.
