Job Purpose: The Site Safety Officer (FMCC) is tasked with ensuring the implementation of safety norms and regulatory compliance as per DGMS guidelines, with a focus on achieving zero NCs during safety audits and reducing unsafe incidents. They are responsible for identifying and mitigating risks, conducting safety rounds, and providing comprehensive safety orientation to staff. Additionally, they oversee safety training programs, emergency planning, and safety review meetings to promote a culture of safety and ensure legal compliance within the mining operation.
Responsibilities:
Site Safety Officer - Mining
Safety Compliance Management:
Monitor and enforce the implementation of safety norms in accordance with DGMS regulations to ensure safe mining operations, with a focus on mitigating risks associated with coal dust, electrical hazards, fire, and other specific safety concerns.
Track and address concerns raised during safety audits by DGMS, striving for zero non-conformities and continuous improvement in safety standards.
Maintain meticulous records and documentation to ensure zero instances of non-compliance with DGMS guidelines and statutory requirements, conducting regular safety review meetings to assess and address any deviations.
Safety Risk Assessment and Mitigation:
Conduct comprehensive Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) exercises to identify potential hazards within the mine, including risks related to coal dust, electrical systems, fire, and other specific safety concerns.
Develop and implement effective risk mitigation measures to address identified hazards and minimize risks to personnel and property, regularly reviewing and updating risk mitigation strategies to adapt to changing conditions and emerging risks.
Review safety compromises, perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and implement mitigation strategies to prevent recurrence of safety incidents, ensuring a proactive approach to safety management.
Employee Safety Training and Welfare:
Organize regular safety orientation sessions for newly appointed staff to familiarize them with safety protocols and procedures, with a specific focus on addressing risks related to coal dust, electrical systems, fire, and other specific safety concerns.
Facilitate vocational training programs, including gas testing and first aid, to enhance employees' safety competencies, ensuring they are well-equipped to handle potential safety risks in the mining environment.
Ensure the availability of adequate safety equipment and resources to safeguard the welfare of employees during mining operations, conducting safety week celebrations and participation in safety council meetings to promote a culture of safety.
Emergency Preparedness and Response:
Develop comprehensive emergency response plans tailored to the specific needs and risks of the mine site, including protocols for addressing emergencies related to coal dust explosions, electrical failures, fires, and other specific safety concerns.
Conduct regular mock drills and training exercises to test the effectiveness of emergency response procedures and improve employee readiness in handling safety emergencies.
Collaborate with relevant stakeholders, including emergency services and regulatory authorities, to coordinate emergency response efforts and enhance overall preparedness for safety incidents.
Implement and Optimize Digital Solutions:
Coordinate with cross-functional teams to deploy digital tools that align with business objectives.
Ensure the effective utilization of digital platforms to improve team efficiency and productivity.
