Safety Officer Responsibilities
Continuous inspection of project sites, to ensure a hazard-free environment
Conducts toolbox meetings
Assessment and approval of subcontractor safety plans
Verifies that injury logs and reports are completed and submitted to related
government agencies
Verification of tools and equipment to ensure good quality
Promoting safe practices on site
Creating and enforcing safety guidelines and programs
Carrying out drills and exercises on managing emergency situations
Conducting investigations on accidents and near misses
Reports to concerned authorities as requested or mandated by regulations
Responding to workers' safety concerns
Manages all communications with government departments in regards to safety
Arranges OSHA-mandated evaluations of the site by external agencies
/consultants
Coordinates all issues regarding removal of hazardous materials or waste
Assisting with the preparation of a Facade health and safety plan
Attending project planning meetings and collaborating with Project managers
Establishing and maintaining health and safety communication structures
Testing the effectiveness of site emergency response plans
Continuous monitoring of all safety related documents, reports, and issues to
keep them updated.
Safety Officer Requirements and Qualifications:
3-6 years of experience as a Safety Officer or similar role
Excellent knowledge of legislation and procedures
Excellent knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices
3-6 years of experience in producing reports
Experience with writing policies and procedures for health and safety
Familiarity with conducting data analysis and reporting statistics
Proficient in MS Office
Working knowledge of safety management information system
Outstanding organizational skills
Critical thinker and problem-solving skills
Team player
Good time-management skills
Great interpersonal and communication skills
Any degree in safety management or similar field
Certificate in occupational health and safety
Responsibilities Summary
A construction safety officer can be responsible for the following duties:
Inspects the site to ensure it is a hazard-free environment.
Conducts toolbox meetings
Is part of the project safety council and leads all efforts to enhance safety
The safety officer reviews and approves all subcontractor's safety plans
Verifies that injury logs and reports are completed and submitted to related government agencies
Verifies that all tools and equipment are adequate and safe for use.

Trains and carries out drills and exercises on how to manage emergency situations.

Serves as the link between state and local agencies and contractors.
Receives reports from and responds to orders issued by Department of Labor inspectors.
Arranges for OSHA mandated testing and/or evaluations of the workplace by external agencies/consultants.
