The Safety Officer is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and continuously improving safety protocols and practices in the forging unit. This role ensures compliance with legal standards, promotes a culture of safety, and minimizes risks related to high-heat, high-pressure forging operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct regular risk assessments and safety audits of forging operations.
Ensure compliance with all applicable safety laws, regulations, and internal policies (OSHA, Factories Act, etc.).
Identify hazards such as heat stress, pinch points, heavy lifting, and noise exposure; implement mitigation measures.
Develop and maintain Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Train employees on safety procedures, PPE usage, emergency response, and safe machine operation.
Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses; prepare detailed reports and recommend corrective actions.
Monitor proper use of safety gear and PPE in hot forging and press environments.
Ensure safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials (lubricants, oils, etc.).
Conduct fire drills, evacuation drills, and emergency preparedness training.
Coordinate with maintenance and production teams to ensure lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures are followed.
Maintain safety documentation and safety data sheets (SDS) for all chemicals and equipment.
Act as a point of contact for external safety audits and inspections.
Qualifications & Skills:
Bachelor's / Diploma degree in Engineering, Industrial Safety, or equivalent.
Certification in Industrial Safety (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, or local equivalent).
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a heavy manufacturing or forging environment.
In-depth knowledge of safety management systems (SMS), risk assessment tools, and ISO 45001 standards.
Strong communication and training skills.
Ability to work in hot, noisy, and physically demanding environments.
