Job Description

The Safety Officer ensures a safe working environment for all employees, visitors, and contractors by implementing safety policies, conducting regular inspections, and adhering to industry regulations and standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Safety Policy Implementation:

Develop, implement, and enforce safety policies, procedures, and practices in compliance with local and national regulations. Promote a safety culture throughout the organization.

Risk Assessment:

Conduct risk assessments to identify potential hazards in the workplace. Recommend and implement corrective actions to mitigate risks.

Safety Inspections:

Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance with safety standards. Identify unsafe work practices or potential hazards and take corrective actions.

Training and Awareness:

Conduct safety training sessions for employees to raise awareness about workplace safety. Provide guidance on proper use of protective equipment and emergency procedures.

Accident Investigation:

Investigate accidents, near misses, and incidents to determine the cause and prevent future occurrences. Prepare and maintain records of accidents and incidents for reporting purposes.

Emergency Preparedness:

Ensure that emergency exits, firefighting equipment, and first-aid kits are readily available and functional. Develop and regularly test emergency evacuation plans.

Compliance Monitoring:

Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, environmental standards, and legal requirements. Keep up to date with new laws, regulations, and best practices in safety.

Reporting and Documentation:

Prepare regular reports for management on safety performance, incidents, and safety audits. Maintain up-to-date safety records, incident logs, and compliance documentation.

Safety Equipment Management:

Ensure the proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE) and other safety gear. Track and manage safety supplies and equipment inventory.

Collaboration:

Collaborate with department heads and supervisors to address safety concerns and improve workplace safety. Advise management on necessary safety improvements and cost-effective safety solutions.
Qualifications:

Education:

A Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Certifications:

NEBOSH, OSHA, or equivalent safety certifications may be required.

Experience:

Prior experience as a Safety Officer or in a similar role is preferred.
Skills:

Knowledge of local, national, and international safety regulations. Strong understanding of risk management and accident prevention techniques. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities. Ability to work under pressure and manage emergency situations.
Conditions:

Typically based on-site in industrial, construction, or office settings, depending on the organization. Regular working hours with occasional emergency response or after-hours work required. Some physical demands, including inspections in potentially hazardous environments.
