Job Summary
The Safety Officer will be responsible for implementing and monitoring safety measures at the construction site, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and creating a zero-accident environment. The role involves conducting inspections, training workers, identifying hazards, and ensuring safe working conditions across all civil activities.
Key Responsibilities1. Safety Implementation
Enforce safety policies, site rules, and HSE standards on the construction site.
Ensure all workers and subcontractors follow safety protocols.
Monitor high-risk activities like excavation, scaffolding, concreting, working at height, lifting operations, etc.
2. Site Inspection & Hazard Control
Conduct daily site inspections to identify hazards and unsafe practices.
Recommend corrective actions and ensure timely implementation.
Ensure proper barricading, signage, PPE usage, and safe work procedures.
3. Safety Training & Awareness
Conduct toolbox talks (TBT) and safety induction programs for new workers.
Organize safety awareness sessions for staff and labor.
Maintain training records and attendance.
4. Incident & Accident Management
Investigate near-miss incidents, accidents, and unsafe conditions.
Prepare incident reports and corrective action plans.
Maintain accident register, risk assessment documents, and compliance records.
5. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain safety documentation such as JSA, RA, PTW, MIS reports, and inspection checklists.
Prepare daily/weekly/monthly safety reports and share with management.
Coordinate with client/consultant safety teams for audits and inspections.
6. Compliance & Audit
Ensure compliance with statutory safety norms, IS codes, and local regulations.
Support internal and external HSE audits.
Ensure emergency preparedness measures (fire drills, evacuation plans).
7. Equipment & Material Safety
Ensure safe usage of machinery, scaffolding, ladders, electrical systems, and tools.
Verify lifting tools/tackles certification and renewal.
Ensure safe storage and handling of hazardous materials.
8. Coordination & Communication
Coordinate with project managers, engineers, supervisors, and contractors regarding safety measures.
Attend site meetings and provide safety input for work planning.
Act as the primary point of contact for all HSE-related matters.
Skills & Competencies Required
Strong knowledge of construction safety practices.
Good understanding of civil activities (concreting, rebar, shuttering, excavation, etc.).
Excellent communication and reporting skills.
Ability to identify hazards and propose solutions quickly.
Confidence to enforce safety rules at site.
Preferred Industry Experience
Building construction (residential/commercial/industrial).
Infrastructure projects (roads, bridges, tunnels, etc.).
Contractor/Developer company experience.
