The role focuses on ensuring safe operating practices across stamping, die-casting, press shop, tool room, maintenance and utilities. The Safety Manager will be responsible for risk assessments, compliance with safety norms, audit readiness, accident prevention, and building basic safety discipline among employees and contractors. This is a hands-on role requiring strong presence on the shop floor and close coordination with operations, maintenance, HR and quality teams.
Responsibilities
Plant Safety Management
Oversee safety practices across all production areas, including stamping presses, die-casting machines, furnaces, utilities, and material handling zones.
Conduct routine shop-floor safety inspections to identify risks, unsafe acts, or unsafe conditions.
Ensure adherence to machine guarding, PPE usage, housekeeping, and safe operating procedures.
Support safe startup/shutdown procedures for machines and equipment. Compliance & Audit Readiness
Ensure compliance with applicable safety norms under the Factories Act and other
relevant regulations.
Maintain documentation required for statutory inspections and customer audits.
Prepare and update safety SOPs, checklists, permits, and records.
Coordinate with HR and external consultants wherever specific statutory support or certification is required.
Risk Assessment & Preventive Measures
Conduct Job Safety Analysis (JSA), risk assessments and hazard identification for machines and processes.
Recommend and implement corrective actions to minimize risks and prevent incidents.
Monitor safety interlocks, emergency controls, lifting equipment safety and fire
protection systems.
Work with Maintenance to ensure machines meet safety and compliance requirements.
Incident Reporting & Investigation
Lead reporting, investigation and documentation of near-misses, incidents and accidents.
Identify root causes and ensure corrective and preventive actions are implemented on time.
Track all incidents and present safety metrics during internal reviews.
Training & Awareness
Conduct safety inductions for new employees and contract workers.
Train supervisors, operators, and contract labour on safe practices, PPE usage, and
emergency procedures.
Conduct toolbox talks and awareness sessions across shifts.
Reinforce discipline around safety practices through continuous engagement.
Emergency Preparedness
Maintain emergency response plans and ensure readiness of fire safety equipment.
Conduct periodic fire drills and evacuation drills.
Ensure first-aid kits, emergency exits, and safety signage are in place and maintained.
Contractor Safety Management
Ensure all contract workers follow safety norms while on-site.
Verify contractor safety documents and coordinate with HR for training and compliance.
Monitor high-risk work such as electrical work, heavy lifting, furnace operations, confined spaces, etc.
Requirements
Diploma / Graduate in Engineering or Science with additional safety qualifications (e.g., Diploma in Industrial Safety, NEBOSH, or equivalent).
Proven experience in plant safety within manufacturing environments.
Exposure to stamping presses, die-casting, or precision component manufacturing an advantage.
Strong understanding of safety norms, machine safety, and statutory requirements.
Practical, steady and solution-focused approach to safety issues.
