Job Purpose (Significance of the role & Objectives)
The Robot Operator is responsible for the operation, monitoring, and basic maintenance of robotic systems deployed on the production floor. These operators ensure that automated equipment functions correctly during production cycles, troubleshoot minor issues, and assist in loading/unloading parts or fixtures. They work closely with the production and maintenance teams to ensure high uptime, accuracy, and process quality.
Key Responsibilities and Deliverables
Robot Operation & Supervision
Start, stop, and monitor robots based on the defined production sequence.
Load and unload parts/fixtures into robotic cells or turntables.
Confirm that the robot executes programmed paths (e.g., dispensing, welding, pick-and-place) correctly.
Perform pre-shift inspection and safety checks on robots and associated tooling.
Ensure availability of consumables like adhesives, soldering tips, fasteners, etc.
Verify fixtures, jigs, and work holding components are secure and aligned.
Identify and respond to alarms, errors, or abnormal robot behavior.
Reset faults or stop cycles safely and notify the maintenance/engineering team for major issues.
Provide feedback to engineers on recurring issues or opportunities for program improvements.
Assist with cycle time monitoring and reporting (manual logs or MES systems).
Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for part placement, adhesive curing, part orientation, etc.
Maintain production pace and notify supervisors of delays or shortages.
Perform basic cleaning and housekeeping of robotic work cells.
Report wear and tear or damage to grippers, nozzles, or end-effectors.
Replace or refill materials where required (e.g., adhesives, cartridges, etc.).
Log production counts, cycle times, downtime, and error codes as per shift requirements.
Follow traceability processes using barcodes, RFID, or production terminals
Desired Qualifications: Required Qualification, Knowledge, and Experience
Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
Good understanding of industrial robots (ABB, FANUC, Yaskawa, KUKA, etc.)
Ability to read and follow work instructions, SOPs, and HMI displays
Familiarity with adhesive dispensing, vision inspection, or robotic welding (optional)
Knowledge of lock-out/tag-out procedures and emergency stops
Awareness of robotic safety zones and collaborative robot environments
Exposure to robots in adhesive dispensing, welding, pick-and-place, or assembly operations.
