The Robot Design Engineer will be responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and prototyping advanced mechanical systems for legged and arm robots. This role aims to develop high-performance, lightweight, and structurally efficient robotic platforms that seamlessly integrate with AI and control systems. Responsibilities




+ Conceptualize and develop mechanical subsystems such as limbs, joints, actuators, and end-effectors, ensuring functional, lightweight, and efficient robotic designs.
+ Conduct structural analysis, kinematic and dynamic simulations, and apply optimization techniques to enhance the performance and reliability of robotic components.
+ Identify and integrate appropriate actuators, sensors, and materials that meet the requirements for advanced locomotion and precise manipulation tasks.
+ Work in close collaboration with control systems, AI, and electronics teams to ensure mechanical designs align with overall system architecture and performance goals.
+ Create comprehensive CAD models, technical drawings, and production documentation to support accurate manufacturing and efficient assembly processes.
+ Oversee the fabrication, assembly, and testing phases of robotic prototypes, ensuring design intent is realized and mechanical functionality is validated.
+ Refine and improve designs through iterative development, incorporating experimental insights and performance data to enhance overall system capability.

Key Skills, Qualifications, and Required Years of Experience




Proficient in CAD tools (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, CATIA). Experience with structural/thermal FEA tools (ANSYS, Abaqus). Solid understanding of kinematics, dynamics, and mechanical design principles for legged locomotion. Familiarity with actuators (servo, BLDC, hydraulic), sensors (IMU, force, vision), and embedded systems. Knowledge of robotic components such as joints, end-effectors, and compliant mechanisms. Familiarity with rapid prototyping tools--3D printing, machining, laser cutting, etc. Exposure to embedded hardware, sensors (IMU, force, vision), and control integration. Exposure to ROS/ROS2 and integration with control software. Hands-on experience with field testing and debugging of robotic systems. Knowledge of compliant mechanisms, lightweight structures, and bio-inspired design. Experience designing for real-world robotic platforms (e.g., Boston Dynamics, Unitree, Agility Robotics). * Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related field (or pursuing an internship)
