Highly competent and motivated Earthen Road Construction Engineer to lead the planning, execution, and supervision of rural and unpaved road construction projects. This role is vital in delivering cost-effective, sustainable, and durable road infrastructure, especially in remote or developing regions where bituminous or concrete roads may not be feasible. The engineer will be responsible for ensuring technical accuracy in alignment, grading, and soil selection, as well as managing field teams and resources to ensure timely and quality completion of the works.
The ideal candidate should have a deep understanding of soil behavior, compaction techniques, and drainage principles, with the ability to apply this knowledge to real-world conditions. Strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and a hands-on approach to problem-solving are essential. The role also involves close coordination with surveyors, contractors, quality control teams, and local authorities to ensure that the roads are constructed in line with project goals, engineering standards, and safety regulations. This is a critical position that directly impacts the connectivity, accessibility, and economic development.
Key Responsibilities:
Planning & Design:
Analyze survey data and assist in road alignment planning.
Select appropriate borrow pit locations and soil materials based on geotechnical reports.
Ensure proper design of subgrade and compaction methods.
Execution & Supervision:
Oversee site preparation, excavation, embankment construction, and compaction.
Supervise construction activities to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, and technical standards.
Monitor the placement and moisture content of soil layers and compaction levels.
Coordinate with site teams, equipment operators, and subcontractors.
Quality & Safety Assurance:
Ensure all construction complies with relevant BIS / IRC codes and project specifications.
Conduct or supervise field testing of soil compaction, such as Proctor tests and field density tests.
Implement safety measures on-site and conduct safety briefings.
Reporting & Documentation:
Maintain daily work reports, material usage logs, and quality control records.
Report progress, issues, and risks to the Project Manager.
Document changes and support preparation of measurement books (MBs) and bills.
