The Rigger is responsible for setting up and preparing rigging equipment to lift, move, position, and secure heavy materials and components during shipbuilding, repair, and maintenance operations. The role involves working with cranes, hoists, winches, and other lifting devices, ensuring safe and efficient material handling in accordance with industry standards and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Inspect and prepare rigging equipment such as slings, chains, shackles, and hoists before use.
Determine the proper rigging configuration and load weight distribution for lifting operations.
Assist in positioning and securing large structures, modules, and components during ship construction or repair.
Signal or direct crane operators during lifting, moving, or placing operations.
Ensure compliance with safety standards and follow all shipyard lifting procedures.
Coordinate with crane operators, welders, fitters, and supervisors to ensure smooth workflow.
Perform routine maintenance and inspection of rigging tools and equipment.
Report defects, unsafe conditions, or incidents immediately to the supervisor.
Work in confined spaces, heights, and varying weather conditions as required.
Qualifications and Experience:
Minimum 2-5 years of experience as a Rigger in the
shipbuilding or heavy engineering industry
.
Knowledge of rigging techniques, load calculations, and safety practices.
Certification in
Rigging and Slinging
(preferred).
Ability to read lifting plans, rigging sketches, and safety instructions.
Physically fit and able to handle heavy loads safely.
