Job Description

A pharmacist's job involves safely preparing and dispensing medications, ensuring legal compliance, and providing expert advice to patients and healthcare professionals on proper drug use, potential interactions, and side effects. Key duties include filling prescriptions, compounding medications, managing pharmacy inventory, maintaining accurate patient records, and collaborating with physicians to optimize drug therapies.

Key Responsibilities

Dispensing & Compounding:

Accurately prepare, package, and label medications according to physician's orders and legal requirements.

Patient Counseling:

Advise patients on how to take their medications, potential side effects, and proper storage.

Prescription Review:

Check prescriptions for accuracy, legality, and appropriateness, and monitor for drug interactions and contraindications.

Health Information:

Provide information and guidance on drug therapies and, in some settings, other health-related topics like over-the-counter remedies.

Record Keeping:

Maintain detailed and organized patient medication records and pharmacy files, including controlled substance logs.

Inventory Management:

Monitor and manage the pharmaceutical supply, ensuring sufficient stock and proper handling of expired or damaged drugs.

Regulatory Compliance:

Adhere to all federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations governing the practice of pharmacy.

Collaboration:

Communicate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to discuss patient care and optimize medication therapy.
