Position Purpose

The role holder shall support in early screening activities in biologicals, including both probiotics and biomolecules. Sourcing of microbes, biomolecules, screening them and biomolecules with in-vitro testing methods for the purpose of advancing the identified leads from the discovery to early development of innovative microorganisms & biomolecules for crop protection / crop growth / nutrient use efficiency / abiotic stress management with an aim of adding significant value to the business of PI. Manage the requirements/budgets and ensure that project schedules are met and that the work is carried out efficiently and accurately, providing regular updates to the team leader. A good technical knowledge on biologicals research and excellent communication skills are essential.

Strategic Responsibilities

Support actively the philosophy, values and strategy of PI Industries. Support the Team Leader in - + Contributing efficiently to the overall success of Biologicals R&D by driving innovation according to objectives and targets being set by the management team.
+ Creating proprietary microbial library including but not limited to bacteria, archaea, fungi and viruses
+ Selecting microbes and biomolecules as candidates for early-development phase to fill portfolio gap and meet market needs

Operational Responsibilities

Source Microbes through field explorations, collection from diverse Biomes, institutes & other culture collections Characterize the function of microorganisms and biomolecules using standardized in vitroscreening techniques, for their potential application in crop protection / crop growth / nutrient use efficiency / abiotic stress management. Design, plan and execute experiments to maximize resources, efficiency and outcome Procure material for all screening activities Identify microorganisms using morphological & molecular techniques in collaboration with the molecular characterization team Conduct in vitro cultivation and evaluation of microorganisms as a service for the profiling and formulation development teams Organize and carry out mass production of lead microbes through liquid & solid fermentation Build and maintain long term storage facilities for microbes and biomolecules ensuring their integrity Identify and address scientific challenges to ensure maximal and constant output Effectively communicate technical features of selected candidates to other teams to ensure a seamless handover Ensure that the laboratory is contamination free. Analyze and interpret research findings for dissemination. Follow documentation standards and ensure results are processed promptly Ensure seamless coordination with the team leader & project manager to achieve project goals effectively Participate in all department meetings and present data results clearly using relevant visuals and concise summaries Engage in internal and external forums and professional networks to stay updated and enhance expertise.

Education Qualification

Masters/ Ph D. in Agriculture (Microbiology / Plant Pathology/ Biotechnology/ Botany) from a reputed University / Institute with excellent academic credentials

Work Experience

Masters with 8-10 years of experience; PhD with 5-7 years of experience

Experienced Microbiologist with in-depth knowledge of microbial modes of action and their applications. Proficient in experimental design, planning, and execution ensuring robust and reliable research outcomes. Strong expertise in Crop Protection, understanding challenges in agricultural sustainability and productivity. Skilled in data observation, analysis, and interpretation for actionable insights. Demonstrated abilities in project management, overseeing complex tasks from initiation to completion. Familiarity with molecular Biology, biochemistry, and bioinformatics, enhancing interdisciplinary research and innovation.
