Impacts departmental operations and responsible for planning/execution. The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. Some judgment may be required but this is typically with guidance.



As a Research Engineer \xe2\x80\x93 Carbon Capture Systems, you will do hands-on work on technology programs in development and research of advanced carbon capture systems. You will work on concepts to integrate, improve performance and operability of various carbon capture systems. You will interact with technologists and engineers to deliver novel solutions for complex, multi-disciplinary problems in the broad area of decarbonization. This is a high impact and high visible role with tight deadlines requiring extremely quick turn-around times, often needing to work with limited inputs/data and huge opportunities for creativity and innovation.

Roles and Responsibilities

\xef\x82\xb7 Process modelling of low-carbon energy technologies including advanced power cycle, (supercritical CO2 cycle), refrigeration cycle, blue hydrogen generation system, fuel cell/electrolyser, carbon-capture technologies including liquid-solvent, adsorption technologies, and energy storage

\xef\x82\xb7 Techno-economic analysis and optimization of the energy systems.

\xef\x82\xb7 Heat integration and preliminary sizing of heat exchangers, turbomachinery, and

valves.

  • Hands-on work on steady state and transient process modelling and controls development
  • Hands-on work on Heat Transfer and Thermal Management
  • Dynamic process modelling with controls
  • Advanced modeling and simulation, including high-fidelity analyses, with opportunities for in-house code development
  • Develop ideas and concepts to improve performance and operability of gas turbine, steam turbine, and other energy systems related to carbon capture systems.
  • Deliver on technical projects with set timelines and cost, implement plans with minimal guidance to meet technical requirements and assure proper documentation of the same
  • Network and collaborate with both GE Vernova engineers, Vernova Advanced Research team members to build plans and execute on technical projects
  • Participate in a team framework on multi-generation technology programs to enable future design advancements, while independently executing tasks leveraging your technical skills.
Required Qualifications
  • Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering/Chemical Engineering/Thermal Engineering with at least 1 year of relevant post-doctoral/industrial experience OR a Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Mechanical Engineering/Chemical Engineering/Thermal Engineering with at least 5 years of research industry experience
  • Fundamental knowledge in thermodynamics and power plant process modeling
  • Sound understanding of Gas Turbine and Steam Turbine Power Plant Equipment, including Balance of Plant Equipment
  • Experience in learning and using in-house codes and relevant commercial software
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new, unfamiliar technology areas and to abstract system level concepts
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Understanding of Energy Transition Space and technologies/solutions to navigate the transition
  • Solid understanding of Technology Readiness Levels and Technical Competitive Assessment
  • Demonstrated Creativity and Innovative Problem Solving Abilities.
  • Solid understanding of energy transition, decarbonization, fuel cells and storage
  • Passion towards IP Landscape, White Space identification and Patents
Desired Characteristics
  • Experience in detailed performance modeling of turbomachinery and carbon capture systems, components, and sub-components
  • Knowledge of design of compressors, turbines and other accessory process equipment
  • Experience in performing design trade-off studies and design optimization
  • Exposure to prototype/ engine Tests, experience with data mining/processing and building models
