Job Summary This role is responsible for driving innovation, ensuring all cooling packages (radiator, fan, air handling, and heat exchangers) meet stringent performance, cost, and durability targets, and ensuring compliance with global regulatory standards (thermal, noise, and emissions). His primary technical responsibility and approval for thermal management and system integration within the Genset product line.
Role & Responsibilities
Technical Leadership Technology Roadmap: Define the long-term technology roadmap for Genset cooling systems, integrating trends like high-density power requirements, extreme ambient conditions, and modular cooling architectures
System Integration: Define overall integration of the cooling system with the engine, base frame, and canopy, acting as the primary interface between Engine Design, Simulation team and Application Engineering (AE) teams
Performance Ownership: Be the final technical authority for meeting all specified thermal performance criteria, including maximum top tank temperature, heat rejection, and fan power consumption across the entire operating map
Component Selection and Integration: Select and size key components, including radiators, heat exchangers, fans (pusher/puller), fan drives, and water pumps, based on required flow rates, pressure head, and heat rejection targets.
Ensure cooling system components are structurally sound and can withstand engine vibration and thermal cycling (LCF/HCF) over the product life
Define the Bill of Materials (BOM) for the entire cooling package, focusing on cost, weight, and manufacturability, Design, Validation, and process Compliance
Design Standards: Ensure all designs adhere to internal standards and external specifications, including ISO 3046, ISO 8528 and local noise/emission regulations
Thermal Validation: Review and approve thermal models, CFD studies, and derating calculations based on site-specific factors like altitude, ambient temperature, and heat rejection factors
Structural Integrity: Ensure all cooling pack mountings and structures are validated against Fatigue/ vibration tolerance required by the engine system
Design Reviews: Lead formal technical design reviews (Gate Reviews) to manage risks at critical project milestones and ensure designs meet cost targets and manufacturability criteria
Define and execute the DVP&R (Design Verification Plan and Report) for the cooling package, including thermal validation and durability tests
Coordinate with the test lab to conduct tests to ensure compliance with design criteria
Document test results, perform root cause analysis (RCA) for failures, and implement design modifications (ECNs/ECRs).
* Familiar to use product lifecycle tools like PLM for review and approval
