Mission and objectives:
UNFPA is the lead UN agency for delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person's potential is fulfilled. UNFPA's strategic plan, focuses on three transformative results: to end preventable maternal deaths; end unmet need for family planning; and end gender-based violence and harmful practices. UNFPA has been operating in India since 1974.
The Population Dynamics (PD) unit focuses on generation of evidence on emerging population issues such as ageing, migration, low fertility, climate change, demographic dividend as well as on UNFPA's thematic areas including sexual and reproductive health and gender equality to inform policies and programmes at the national and subnational levels. The role of PD unit to strengthen use of data and analysis by building the capacities of government institutions to generate, analyse and disseminate disaggregated population data, by geography and social groups, for use in the planning and monitoring of programmes to address inequalities and reach vulnerable populations; providing technical inputs into the upcoming population census and larger scale national surveys on health, population and gender, including for the collection of disaggregated data on gender-based violence and harmful practices; strengthening policy research and demographic intelligence for the integration of population dynamics and megatrends into sustainable development planning efforts and convening policy dialogues and raising awareness, improving knowledge of policymakers and advocating for ap-propriate policies at both the national and State levels on population and its interlinkages with sustainable development, including in relation to the demographic dividend, population ageing, urbanization, migration and climate change, including the life-cycle approach to such population change
Context:
The role of UN Volunteer is to assist the Population Dynamics (PD) team members in under-taking secondary data analysis to address inequalities and reach vulnerable populations and addressing emerging population issues, under the guidance of the Research Specialist.
Task description:
Under the direct supervision of Population Dynamics and Research Specialist, the UN University Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
