Main purpose of the role:


The Registrar will serve as a senior leader responsible for overseeing all facets of academic administration, student records, regulatory compliance, and institutional governance at the University of Bristol, Mumbai Enterprise Campus (MEC). This foundational role is critical in establishing and managing systems that ensure academic integrity, adherence to Indian higher education regulations, and the delivery of seamless, student-centered services.
The Registrar will lead key institutional functions including student registration, academic calendar and course scheduling, examination management, records maintenance, and certification processes. Additionally, the role will manage compliance and engagement with Indian regulatory bodies such as UGC, AICTE, NAAC, and others, while acting as a vital liaison with the University of Bristol's main campus to ensure alignment with the University's global standards of academic quality and governance.

Key Responsibilities:


1. Academic Administration & Governance
Establish and manage academic administrative operations including:

+ Student registration and enrolment
+ Academic calendars and course schedules
+ Examination coordination and grading protocols
+ Degree audits, certifications, and transcript issuance
Serve as Secretary to statutory academic bodies such as:

+ Academic Council
+ Boards of Studies
+ Examination Boards
Maintain the integrity, accuracy, and confidentiality of all academic records in compliance with institutional policies and applicable legal standards.



2. Quality Assurance & Regulatory Compliance
Lead academic quality assurance processes including: + Program audits
+ Faculty teaching evaluations
+ Institutional effectiveness frameworks

Ensure adherence to all relevant Indian regulatory requirements, including those of: + UGC, AICTE, NAAC, NIRF, and other statutory bodies

Collaborate with the University of Bristol's academic governance team to ensure that policies, academic standards, and compliance protocols are consistent and globally aligned. Prepare and submit all regulatory filings, accreditation documents, and compliance reports in a timely and accurate manner.

3. Student Policy & Academic Conduct
Develop and implement policies related to: + Academic progression
+ Attendance, credit transfer, and re-registration
+ Student code of conduct and academic integrity
+ Disciplinary actions and grievance redressal

Monitor student eligibility, credit accumulation, and graduation readiness. Coordinate the student appeals and conduct processes in partnership with Academic Affairs and Student Services.



4. Parent & Guardian Communication (Academic Compliance Context)
Serve as an institutional point of contact for parent/guardian communications regarding: + Academic standing and progress
+ Regulatory compliance and disciplinary matters
+ Certification or documentation requests

Ensure confidentiality, empathy, and policy-driven communication protocols are maintained in all stakeholder interactions.



5. Institutional Risk, Policy & Legal Oversight
Draft, maintain, and periodically review institutional academic policies and standard operating procedures. Monitor institutional risks related to academic operations, legal compliance, and governance protocols. Liaise with legal counsel, audit committees, and compliance officers to manage internal audits, investigations, or regulatory inspections related to academic functions. Contribute to campus-wide strategic planning, institutional development, and accreditation preparation. Represent University of Bristol` in external forums, conferences, and regulatory visits.


Eligibility Criteria



Professional Experience




Minimum

10-12 years

of relevant experience in

academia

, with

5+ years

in a senior leadership role (Registrar/Deputy Registrar).

Deep familiarity with Indian higher education systems and regulatory frameworks.

Experience working with international institutions or transnational education models preferred.



Academic Credentials

Master's degree, doctoral degree, or equivalent qualification in any academic field. Additional certifications in Higher Education Policy, Institutional Quality Assurance, or Academic Governance are highly desirable. Demonstrated commitment to professional development in global higher education trends, international compliance standards, and quality assurance frameworks is essential.


Knowledge and Skill


Strong understanding of Indian regulatory frameworks (UGC, AICTE, NAAC, NIRF, etc.) and global academic policies.

Aware of academic management systems. High attention to detail with excellent organizational and documentation skills.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, especially in compliance or high-stakes contexts.

Strong ethical judgment and ability to manage confidential data with discretion.
