Conducting pulmonary function tests (like spirometry) to assess lung capacity and function.
Evaluating patients' respiratory status and identifying breathing problems.
Analyzing arterial blood gas samples to assess oxygen and carbon dioxide levels.
Treatment and Management:
Developing and implementing respiratory therapy treatment plans in consultation with physicians.
Administering medications, such as inhaled drugs and oxygen therapy.
Managing mechanical ventilators and other respiratory support equipment.
Providing airway management, including bronchopulmonary drainage and chest physiotherapy.
Performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
Patient Education and Support:
Educating patients and their families on respiratory conditions, treatment plans, and self-care techniques.
Providing emotional support to patients undergoing respiratory therapy.
Equipment Management and Maintenance:
Ensuring proper setup, safety, and function of respiratory equipment.
Maintaining and calibrating respiratory equipment.
Emergency Care:
Responding to respiratory emergencies, such as asthma attacks or respiratory distress.
Providing immediate life support, including CPR, in emergency situations.
Collaboration and Communication:
Working collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
Communicating effectively with patients, families, and other team members.
Other Duties:
Participating in quality improvement initiatives.
Assisting with patient transport, especially high-risk patients.
Supervising and training other respiratory therapists and students.
