The ICU Nurse is responsible for delivering high-quality critical care nursing to patients admitted in the Intensive Care Unit. The role includes continuous monitoring, timely intervention, emergency response, and coordination with the multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Patient Care & Monitoring
Provide continuous bedside monitoring of vital signs, oxygen saturation, ECG, ventilator settings, and hemodynamic status.
Perform timely assessments and document patient condition accurately.
Monitor and manage critically ill patients on ventilators, infusions, and life-support systems.
Respond promptly to emergency situations such as cardiac arrest, respiratory failure, or sudden deterioration.
B. Clinical Procedures
Administer medications, IV fluids, injections, and infusions as per doctor's orders.
Assist in invasive procedures such as central line insertion, intubation, arterial lines, etc.
Manage ventilators, BiPAP/CPAP, infusion pumps, defibrillators, and other ICU equipment.
Maintain strict aseptic technique during all procedures.
Perform wound care, catheter care, suctioning, and other nursing procedures.
C. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate nursing records, charts, fluid balance, intake/output, and treatment sheets.
Report critical changes in patient condition to the intensivist/consultant immediately.
Handover patient details accurately during shift change.
D. Infection Control & Safety
Follow all infection control protocols, including hand hygiene and PPE usage.
Ensure safe disposal of biomedical waste.
Maintain a sterile environment and ensure equipment is disinfected and functional.
E. Patient & Family Support
Educate patient families about the patient's condition, care plan, and ICU protocols.
Provide emotional support with empathy and professionalism.
Maintain confidentiality and respect patient dignity.
3. Skills & Requirements
Diploma / B.Sc. Nursing with valid Nursing Council registration.
Minimum 3 years of ICU or critical care experience (preferred).
Strong knowledge of critical care nursing, ventilator management, and emergency care.
Ability to handle high-stress situations and multi-task efficiently.
Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
Knowledge of ICU protocols, infection control, and emergency response.

5. Work Timings & Shifts
As per hospital shift schedule (Morning/Evening/Night).
