Job Description

A staff nurse provides direct patient care by administering medication, monitoring vital signs, managing medical equipment, and maintaining patient records, while also educating patients and families and collaborating with the healthcare team to develop and implement care plans.

Key Responsibilities:

Direct Patient Care:

Administering medications, monitoring vital signs (temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiration), wound care, and assisting with daily living activities.

Patient Assessment:

Evaluating patient conditions, identifying needs, and reporting changes to the healthcare team.

Medication Administration:

Ensuring medications are administered correctly and safely, following physician orders.

Documentation:

Maintaining accurate and detailed patient records, including medication administration, vital signs, and observations.

Patient Education:

Providing information to patients and their families about health conditions, treatment plans, and self-care strategies.

Collaboration:

Working with doctors, other nurses, and healthcare professionals to develop and implement care plans.

Equipment Operation:

Utilizing medical equipment safely and effectively, such as oxygen equipment, infusion pumps, and monitoring devices.

Infection Control:

Following established protocols to prevent the spread of infection.

Supervision:

May be responsible for supervising and guiding junior nurses or nursing students.

Proficiency in using medical equipment, administering medications, and performing nursing procedures.

Ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.

Qualifications:

Nursing Degree:

Completion of an accredited nursing program (Associate or Bachelor's degree).

Licensure:

Passing the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) to become a Registered Nurse (RN).

State Licensure:

Holding a current and active nursing license in the state where they are employed.

Experience:

Entry-level positions may require some experience, while more senior roles may require years of experience.
