Job Summary

The State Regional Sales Manager will be responsible for overseeing sales operations within the assigned states in Western India . Reporting directly to the Head of Sales at our Kozhikode headquarters, this role involves developing and executing sales strategies, managing a team of sales representatives, building strong relationships with distributors and retailers, and achieving revenue targets. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with a proven track record in the FMCG or footwear industry, capable of navigating competitive markets and driving growth in a fast-paced trading environment. This is a full-time position based in Western India with frequent travel required across the state and region.

Key Responsibilities

Sales Strategy and Planning: Develop and implement comprehensive sales plans for the state/region to meet or exceed annual revenue targets.

Analyze market trends, competitor activities, and customer preferences in the footwear sector to identify growth opportunities and adjust strategies accordingly.

Team Leadership and Management: Lead, mentor, and motivate a team of 2-4 executives and area managers. Conduct regular performance reviews, provide training on product knowledge and sales techniques, and ensure alignment with company goals. Foster a high-performance culture focused on accountability and collaboration.

Business Development: Identify and onboard new distributors, wholesalers, and retail partners to expand the company's footprint.

Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms to maximize profitability while maintaining strong partnerships.

Sales Execution and Monitoring: Oversee day-to-day sales activities, including order processing, inventory management, and delivery coordination.

Track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as sales volume, market share, and customer acquisition rates using CRM tools and sales dashboards.

Customer Relationship Management: Build and maintain long-term relationships with key clients, including large retail chains and independent stores.

Address customer queries, resolve issues promptly, and gather feedback to improve product offerings and service quality.

Market Intelligence and Reporting: Conduct regular market research to stay updated on footwear trends, consumer behavior, and regulatory changes in Kerala and surrounding areas. Prepare detailed reports on sales performance, forecasts, and challenges for senior management at the Kozhikode head office.

Budget Management: Manage the regional sales budget, including expenses for travel, promotions, and incentives.

Ensure cost-effective operations while optimizing resource allocation.

Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure all sales activities comply with company policies, legal requirements, and industry standards.

Mitigate risks related to credit, inventory, and supply chain disruptions.

Promotional Activities: Plan and execute trade promotions, product launches, and marketing campaigns in collaboration with the marketing team.

Participate in trade shows, exhibitions, and local events to enhance brand visibility.

Travel and Field Work: Travel extensively (up to 50-60% of the time) within the state and region to visit clients, monitor team performance, and assess market conditions.

Qualifications and Requirements

Education: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field. An MBA or postgraduate qualification in Sales/Marketing is preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years in sales management, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role within the footwear, apparel, or FMCG trading industry.

Experience in Western India markets like Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan is highly desirable.

Skills:

Strong leadership and team management abilities, with a track record of building high-performing sales teams.

Excellent communication and negotiation skills, both verbal and written (proficiency in English and Hindi is advantageous).

Analytical mindset with proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g. Excel).

Strategic planning and problem-solving skills to address market challenges.

Customer-centric approach with the ability to build rapport and handle objections effectively.

Familiarity with digital sales tools, e-commerce platforms, and inventory management systems.

Personal Attributes: Results-driven, self-motivated, and adaptable to dynamic market conditions. High integrity, resilience under pressure, and a passion for the footwear industry.

Other Requirements: Valid driver's license and willingness to travel extensively. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and basic knowledge of ERP systems.
