R&D Department Lead

Your Role and Responsibilities:

In this role, you will be technically responsible for Research and Product Development (R&D) activities and operations support in a particular location. You will be collaborating with other global product development teams in the division in the area of developing technology, product development and support in accordance with division strategies.

This role is contributing to the Measurement and Analytics division in Process Automation Business Area.

You will be mainly accountable for:

Leading contributor to the product development in Business Line Instrumentation and will be responsible for embedded software architecture and design, implementation, validation and from early concept phase till release to the manufacturing units. Working in R&D multidisciplinary project teams on embedded software design for Instrumentation devices, and you will be responsible for functionality, performance, cost and quality of the deliveries. Exhibiting technical leadership and collaborate within a cross-functional teams (including product management and operations), define & manage technical specification, handing over of technologies, drive quality improvement and support customer cases resolution. Acting as technical leader, providing expertise in the execution and use of supporting tools, processes, design reviews. You will also support the local R&D management in further developing the team and ensuring R&D performance excellence. Understanding the ABB technology strategy in own area of expertise. You will maintain a thorough overview of the state-of-the-art, as well as a professional network outside ABB. You will support strategic technology direction and future Technology/product/software/solution architecture. You will leverage in-depth expertise and experience in own technical areas, to ensure that technology results are properly safeguarded through effective IP management. You will have a thorough understanding of IP strategies and competitors' technology landscape in relevant ABB domains.

Qualifications for the role:

Bachelor/Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical /Electronic Engineering from a reputed University. 12 to 15 years of relevant work experience in embedded device software development preferably in electronic measurement instruments. Technical expertise and solid knowledge in C/C+ with a strong focus on industrial measurement applications for process automation with strong interest in physics and sensing technologies and domain knowledge in one of the following areas: process automation (preferred), industrial applications, automotive, medical. Well versed with DSP, ARM platforms and proficient in embedded OS (ucOS/RTOS/FreeRTOS/eCos/VxWorks/Linux) development and porting. Hands-on experience in IDEs, IAR/CCS/Keil Overall understanding of industrial product development processes, product lifecycle, Experience in Safety Critical Industrial Applications. Well versed in development tool like GIT, Azure DevOps, JIRA, good knowledge on driver development under RTOS, integration with Hardware and solid knowledge of fieldbus and industrial communication protocols (HART, Profibus, Profinet, industrial Ethernet) are preferred. Experience in mentoring team members, excellent documentation skills and the ability to communicate complex concepts.
