The Radiology Technician is responsible for performing diagnostic imaging examinations (X?ray, CT, MRI, etc.), preparing patients for imaging procedures, maintaining imaging equipment, and ensuring patient safety and comfort. The technician works under the supervision of a radiologist and collaborates with other healthcare staff to deliver high-quality diagnostic images.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Review physician's order or request to determine the nature and scope of the imaging examination
Prepare the patient for the procedure: explain the process, remove or shield any artifacts, ensure proper positioning
Operate imaging equipment (X-ray, CT, MRI, etc.), adjusting settings (e.g. exposure time, current, voltage) to obtain high-quality images
Use beam?restrictive devices, shielding and other radiation safety protocols to minimize exposure to patients, staff, and self
Monitor the patient during the imaging procedure; respond to any changes or adverse reactions
Process, evaluate, and assess images for quality; retake images if necessary
Maintain accurate and complete patient records, logs, reports and imaging archives (PACS / RIS)
Assist radiologists or physicians during image-guided or interventional procedures, when needed
Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and quality control checks on imaging equipment; report malfunctions or defects
Maintain adequate inventory of supplies, reagents, contrast agents, and ensure their proper storage
Adhere to infection control, sterilization, and biomedical waste disposal protocols
Follow all regulatory, safety, and radiation protection guidelines (local / national)
Participate in departmental meetings, training, continuing education, and audits
Assist with scheduling, patient flow, and optimizing utilization of imaging resources
