Manager - Quality (Kannan Tools & Dies)



Position Overview
The Manager of Quality at Kannan Tools & Dies (KTD) will oversee the company's quality systems, compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives across precision manufacturing for aerospace, medical devices, oil & gas, energy, and heavy engineering sectors. This role ensures adherence to AS9100D, ISO 13485, and ISO 9001 standards and drives world-class quality culture across all operations.
The Manager - Quality will work closely with Operations, Manufacturing, Engineering, R&D, and Executive Leadership to ensure consistent product quality, process capability, regulatory compliance, and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

1. Quality Systems & Compliance

Maintain and continually improve AS9100D, ISO 13485, and ISO 9001 quality management systems. Lead internal and external audits, customer audits, and certification renewal processes. Ensure compliance with aerospace, medical device, oil & gas, and industrial documentation requirements. Implement and monitor quality assurance protocols, SOPs, and regulatory guidelines.
2. Quality Control & Inspection Management

Oversee all incoming, in-process, and final inspection activities. Manage and optimize inspection technologies (CMM, height gauges, profilometers, surface testers, etc.). Develop inspection plans, control plans, and sampling strategies based on industry standards. Ensure calibration and maintenance of all metrology equipment.
3. Process Quality & Continuous Improvement

Drive root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (RCA, CAPA). Lead initiatives in process capability improvement, SPC, DOE, and lean methodologies. Collaborate with Operations to enhance machining accuracy, reduce scrap, and improve yield. Implement mistake-proofing (Poka-Yoke), 5S, and other quality improvement tools.
4. Customer Quality & Technical Communication

Serve as the primary quality interface with customers (OEMs, Tier-1 suppliers, engineering firms). Manage customer complaints, NCRs, and ensure timely resolution. Prepare technical documentation: First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR) PPAP, FMEA, Control Plans Validation documentation for medical and aerospace products Support Sales with quality documentation required for RFPs and new business acquisition.
5. Supplier Quality Management

Evaluate and approve suppliers based on quality and capability benchmarks. Conduct supplier audits and drive supplier quality improvement programs. Monitor supplier performance through scorecards and corrective actions.
6. Training & Quality Culture Development

Train teams on quality standards, inspection methods, and documentation requirements. Foster a culture of zero-defect manufacturing and continuous improvement. Conduct regular quality awareness and skill development sessions.
7. Documentation & Reporting

Maintain complete and accurate quality documentation as per ISO/AS requirements. Generate monthly and quarterly quality performance reports for leadership. Track KPIs: defect rates, audit findings, process capability, on-time quality delivery, and customer satisfaction.
8. Cross-Department Collaboration

Work closely with Engineering, Production, and R&D teams to validate new processes and parts. Support NPI (New Product Introduction) with quality planning and risk assessment. Communicate quality achievements, certifications, and process improvements for marketing and client presentations.
Required Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related technical field. Quality certifications preferred: ASQ CQE, Lead Auditor (AS9100/ISO), Six Sigma Green/Black Belt.
Experience

7-12 years of quality experience in precision manufacturing or machining industries. Minimum 3-5 years in a leadership or supervisory role. Experience with aerospace, medical devices, oil & gas, or high-precision engineering preferred. Strong background in ISO 9001, AS9100D, and/or ISO 13485 systems.
Skills

Strong knowledge of QMS, CAPA, FMEA, PPAP, SPC, RCA, and metrology. Proficiency with CMM programming/operation and advanced inspection tools. Excellent documentation, audit, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, operations, and customer teams. Strong analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
