Quality Manager - Steel Industry

Job Purpose:

The Quality Manager is responsible for leading the Quality Assurance and Quality Control functions to ensure that steel products meet internal standards and external regulations. This role involves establishing quality policies, managing audits, resolving quality issues, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and implement quality assurance systems and procedures aligned with industry standards (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, BIS). Oversee inspection and testing of raw materials, in-process components, and final steel products. Lead the Quality Control team and manage daily operations of the quality lab (mechanical, chemical, and metallurgical testing). Monitor product compliance with IS/ASTM/EN/BIS standards and customer specifications. Conduct internal and external audits; coordinate with certifying bodies for statutory and regulatory compliance. Investigate customer complaints and non-conformance issues using root cause analysis (RCA), and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA). Work cross-functionally with production, maintenance, and supply chain teams to ensure quality at every stage. Analyze quality data to identify trends and areas for improvement using tools such as SPC, FMEA, and Six Sigma methodologies. Train and develop quality staff and shop floor teams on quality systems and best practices. Ensure calibration and proper functioning of testing instruments and equipment. Maintain all necessary documentation including MTCs, inspection reports, and audit records.

Key Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, or related field; Master's degree is a plus. 8-15 years of experience in the steel industry, with at least 3-5 years in a managerial or leadership role.
