The Quality Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all sheet metal products and assemblies conform to approved engineering drawings, customer specifications, and quality standards. The role involves inspection of incoming materials, in-process manufacturing, and final products, ensuring compliance with dimensional, visual, and functional requirements while supporting continuous improvement and defect prevention across manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities
Inspection & Quality Control
Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspections of sheet metal components including laser-cut, turret-punched, bent, welded, and assembled parts.
Inspect dimensions, tolerances, surface finishes, bend angles, hole locations, flatness, and weld quality as per drawings and specifications.
Verify conformity to engineering drawings, GD&T, BOMs, control plans, and work instructions.
Conduct visual inspections for defects such as burrs, cracks, warping, scratches, and welding imperfections.
Measurement & Testing
Use precision measuring instruments such as vernier calipers, micrometers, height gauges, angle gauges, radius gauges, thread gauges, and measuring tapes.
Perform first article inspection (FAI) and record results as per quality procedures.
Ensure calibration status and proper handling of measuring instruments.
Documentation & Reporting
Prepare and maintain inspection reports, non-conformance reports (NCR), and quality records.
Document inspection results clearly and accurately in manual or digital systems (ERP/QMS).
Assist in preparation for customer audits and internal quality audits.
Non-Conformance & Continuous Improvement
Identify non-conforming products and segregate defective materials to prevent unintended use.
Support root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) activities.
Collaborate with production, engineering, and quality teams to reduce defects and improve process capability.
Compliance & Safety
Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 or applicable quality management systems.
Follow all company safety procedures and maintain a safe, organized inspection area.
Support implementation of 5S and lean manufacturing practices.
