The Quality Inspector will be responsible for ensuring that all steel products and processes comply with the company's quality standards and relevant industry regulations. The role involves conducting inspections, performing quality tests, documenting results, and reporting non-conformities to ensure consistent product quality.
Key Responsibilities:
Inspect raw materials, in-process components, and finished steel products to ensure compliance with specifications and standards.
Conduct dimensional checks, surface inspections, and hardness testing using appropriate tools and instruments.
Verify material certificates, heat numbers, and batch documentation for traceability.
Identify defects such as cracks, corrosion, surface irregularities, or structural issues.
Monitor production processes to ensure adherence to quality control plans and procedures.
Record inspection results, maintain inspection reports, and update quality documentation.
Communicate non-conformities and recommend corrective actions to the production team.
Ensure compliance with ISO standards, customer requirements, and safety regulations.
Participate in internal audits and assist in external quality audits.
Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and reduce rework/rejections.
Required Skills and Competencies:
Strong knowledge of steel grades, properties, and manufacturing processes.
Proficiency in using measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, and hardness testers.
Understanding of welding inspection, surface finishing, and dimensional tolerances.
Familiarity with quality standards like ISO 9001 and relevant metallurgical testing methods.
Good documentation and reporting skills.
Ability to interpret technical drawings and material specifications.
Attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
Qualifications & Experience:
Diploma / B.Tech in Mechanical / Metallurgical Engineering or equivalent.
2-5 years of experience in quality inspection within a steel manufacturing or fabrication environment.
Knowledge of NDT methods (Ultrasonic, Magnetic Particle, Dye Penetrant) will be an added advantage.
Work Conditions:
On-site role in a manufacturing environment.
Requires adherence to safety protocols and use of PPE.
May involve standing for extended periods and working in shifts.
