Job Description

A quality engineer ensures products, processes, and systems meet quality standards by developing and implementing quality control systems, conducting tests, analyzing data, and resolving issues. Key responsibilities include establishing quality metrics, performing audits, monitoring production, writing reports, and collaborating with teams to drive continuous improvement throughout the product lifecycle.

Core responsibilities

Develop and implement quality systems:

Design and maintain quality assurance systems, policies, and procedures to ensure products and processes meet internal standards and external regulations.

Conduct testing and inspections:

Plan and execute inspections and tests on raw materials, components, and final products to verify they conform to specifications.

Analyze data and identify issues:

Monitor quality metrics, analyze data to identify trends, and perform root cause analysis on quality issues and customer complaints.

Resolve problems:

Work with cross-functional teams to implement corrective and preventive actions to fix quality-related problems in design, manufacturing, or supplier components.

Documentation and reporting:

Document all issues, inspections, and process improvements. Prepare and present quality reports to management.

Continuous improvement:

Lead or support initiatives for continuous improvement of products, processes, and systems.

Supplier and customer support:

Work with suppliers to ensure they meet quality standards and act as a customer advocate when quality issues arise.

Key skills and qualifications

Education:

A bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field is often required, with a master's degree sometimes preferred.

Technical Skills:

Proficiency in computer applications like Microsoft Office, as well as specific quality control and analysis software. Experience with tools like Lean or Six Sigma is often beneficial.

Soft Skills:

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are crucial. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are also essential for reporting and collaborating with different teams.
