Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Develop and implement quality plans, inspection procedures, and control plans for new and existing products manufactured in fabrication facilities. Lead and participate in process capability studies (Cp/Cpk), FMEA (Process and PFMEA), and Control Plans to identify and mitigate risks. Design and optimize inspection methods, gauges, jigs, and fixtures; select and validate measurement systems (MSA, CMC, Gage R&R). Own non-conforming material disposition, root cause analysis (5 Why, Ishikawa), corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), and follow-up verification. Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering to validate process changes, equipment modifications, and new tool introductions. Lead internal and supplier quality audits (ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or relevant standards); support customer audits and third-party certifications. Develop and maintain quality metrics and dashboards (yield, scrap, rework, First Pass Yield, DPU, DPMO, NCRs). Drive continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, Six Sigma) to reduce waste, improve process stability, and shorten lead times. Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety requirements relevant to fabrication operations. Manage supplier quality, including supplier audits, incoming inspection, and supplier corrective actions (SCARs). Review and approve quality-related changes to drawings, specifications, and work instructions; collaborate on PFMEA updates. Prepare technical reports, warranty analysis, and customer-facing communications as needed. Train and mentor shop floor personnel on quality methods, inspection techniques, and GMP/housekeeping standards as applicable.
Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Materials) or equivalent; advanced degree or certification is a plus. Experience: 2-7+ years in quality engineering or quality assurance within a fabrication/manufacturing environment (metalworking, welding, machining, sheet metal, or similar). Experience with fabrication processes (cutting, welding, forming, bending, stamping, finishing) and assembly. Hands-on experience with quality tools and methodologies (MSA, Gage R&R, SPC, Pareto, 5 Whys, root cause analysis, FMEA, CAPA, APQP/PPAP). Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of quality systems (ISO 9001,ASME , DIN, JIT, ASNT or relevant standards). Statistical analysis skills and proficiency in Minitab, JMP, or similar. Proficiency with measurement equipment (calipers, micrometers, CMM, vision systems) and GD&T interpretation. Familiarity with welding standards (e.g., AWS) and metallurgy basics is a plus. proficiency with Microsoft Office. Soft Skills: Analytical thinker with a systematic problem-solving approach. Strong communication and collaboration across functions (Production, Engineering, Purchasing, Customer Service). Detail-oriented with a strong sense of ownership and accountability. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Measurements of Success

Reduction in scrap, rework, and non-conformances (NCRs) year over year. Improved First Pass Yield (FPY) and Process Capability (Cp/Cpk). On-time completion of CAPAs and effectiveness verification. Successful audits and minimal NCRs from customers and suppliers. Timely and accurate quality documentation (WPIs, QC plans, inspection reports).
Working Environment

Exposure to shop floor environment with varying noise levels and equipment. May require standing for extended periods and occasional lifting of inspection tools or parts. Travel for supplier or customer audits as needed (approximately 5-15% depending on role and region).
Preferred Certifications (optional)

NDT welding ASNT certificate, Certified Quality Technician (CQT), or Six Sigma Green Belt/Black Belt.
