in the Pre-Engineered Building (PEB) or structural steel industry. This is a
critical role
where the engineer will be responsible for ensuring the
highest standards of quality
at every stage of the project - from raw material inspection to fabrication, surface finishing, and site erection.
The ideal candidate should have a deep understanding of
quality control systems, welding processes, NDT, bolting, painting, and erection methods
used in PEBs. This position demands
technical discipline, leadership skills
, and a commitment to documentation and compliance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES? Quality Planning & System Implementation
Develop and implement a
comprehensive Quality Assurance Plan
and Inspection Test Plans (ITPs) based on project specifications and standards.
Establish standard operating procedures (SOPs) for quality checks across departments (fabrication, painting, erection).
? Raw Material & Vendor Quality Control
Review and verify
Material Test Certificates (MTCs)
for steel, bolts, paints, and other critical items.
Coordinate with procurement and suppliers to ensure
raw material quality compliance

Conduct incoming inspection of materials such as HR plates, coils, built-up sections, fasteners, and welding consumables.
? In-Process Quality Control (Fabrication)
Monitor fabrication processes such as
cutting, welding, fitting, drilling, blasting, and painting
to ensure adherence to project drawings and WPS/PQR/WPQ guidelines.
Ensure welding is performed by qualified welders, and record
weld logs, visual inspections, and NDT reports
.
Inspect bolting tightness, weld joints, component alignment, and dimensional accuracy during assembly.
? Surface Treatment & Painting
Inspect and record
blasting profiles, DFT (Dry Film Thickness)
, and paint quality in compliance with project specifications.
Ensure environmental conditions (humidity, temperature, etc.) meet painting application standards.
Maintain coordination with paint suppliers and third-party inspectors when applicable.
? Erection Quality & Site Supervision
Conduct
pre-erection checks
of structure readiness and coordinate with erection teams to ensure
proper alignment, plumb, and bolting
of columns, rafters, bracings, sheeting, etc.
Supervise and inspect structural connections, tightening torques, sheeting quality, and final finishing at site.
Maintain site QA/QC reports and conduct daily quality briefings with erection teams.
? Documentation & Compliance
Prepare and maintain complete documentation:
NCRs, QIRs, checklists, site inspection reports, handover dossiers, and client approvals.
Ensure traceability of every component used - from raw steel to finished erection.
Assist in preparing the QA/QC part of
monthly client billing and RFI submissions.
? Coordination & Audits
Act as a bridge between design, production, site, and client/consultant teams on all quality matters.
Participate in
internal quality audits, ISO implementation
, and third-party inspections.
Train junior quality staff and technicians on updated QA/QC procedures.
QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE
Education:
Diploma / B.Tech in Mechanical or Civil Engineering
Experience:
3 to 10 years of experience in Quality Control / Assurance in the PEB or structural steel fabrication & erection industry
Certifications (Preferred):
NDT Level II (UT, RT, PT, MPT), ISO 9001 Internal Auditor, WPS/PQR experience
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
Excellent understanding of
PEB fabrication techniques
and site erection methodology
Knowledge of national and international standards:
IS codes, AWS D1.1, ISO 9001, ASTM, AISC
Proficiency in reading fabrication and erection drawings
Familiarity with QA tools like Vernier, DFT gauge, UT gauge, torque wrench
Basic knowledge of AutoCAD, MS Office (Excel, Word), and document control systems
Strong communication skills (written and verbal) for interacting with consultants, clients, and internal teams
