Skills & Competencies
Strong understanding of steel fabrication and erection processes.
Knowledge of welding techniques, NDT methods, and coating systems.
Ability to read engineering drawings and interpret tolerances.
Familiarity with quality tools (5 Why, Fishbone, Pareto, etc.).
Good communication and documentation skills.
Proficiency in MS Office, AutoCAD, and QA/QC reporting tools.
Key Responsibilities
1. Incoming Material Inspection
Verify raw material quality (steel, bolts, paint, etc.) against mill test certificates and specifications.
Maintain material traceability records.
2. In-process Quality Control
Monitor fabrication processes such as cutting, drilling, welding, and assembly.
Check dimensions, tolerances, and welding quality.
Ensure compliance with shop drawings and QA/QC procedures.
3. Welding Inspection
Conduct visual weld inspections.
Coordinate NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) such as Ultrasonic, Radiographic, or Dye Penetrant
Testing.
Verify welder qualifications and WPS (Welding Procedure Specification).
4. Surface Preparation & Painting
Inspect sand blasting, primer, and finish coat thickness (using DFT gauges).
Ensure paint system adherence to project specifications.
5. Final Inspection
Conduct final dimensional and visual checks before dispatch.
Verify marking, packaging, and documentation.
6. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain inspection reports, calibration records, and non-conformance reports (NCRs).
Assist in root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).
7. Standards & Compliance
Work as per codes like AISC, AWS D1.1, IS 800, IS 2062*, etc. Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and client quality plans.
