The Quality Control In-Charge will be responsible for managing and overseeing all quality assurance and quality control activities in the structural rolling mill producing Angle, Beam, Channel, Rail, Flat, and other structural steel sections. This role ensures metallurgical accuracy, compliance with national and international standards, and customer-specific inspection requirements. The position reports directly to the Plant Head / Technical Director to maintain independence from production pressures.
Ensure quality compliance of structural steel products used in load-bearing applications
Implement and monitor QA/QC systems as per applicable standards (IS, ASTM, EN, etc.)
Maintain independence of quality function from production operations
Prepare, review, and approve quality documentation and inspection reports
Raw Material & Process Control
Oversee quality inspection of raw materials such as billets, blooms, and slabs
Ensure chemical composition and mechanical properties meet specified standards
Monitor rolling process parameters affecting product quality
Coordinate with production for corrective and preventive actions
Testing & Inspection
Supervise chemical and mechanical testing (tensile, bend, impact, etc.)
Ensure calibration and proper use of laboratory and testing equipment
Manage internal and third-party inspections including CORE, PGCIL, and other customer or agency inspections
Handle stage-wise inspections, final inspections, and dispatch clearance
Team Management
Lead, supervise, and train the QC team including inspectors and lab technicians
Allocate inspection duties and ensure effective shift coverage
Review QC team performance and ensure adherence to SOPs
Customer & Audit Handling
Coordinate with customers and third-party inspectors during audits and inspections
Address customer complaints and quality deviations with root cause analysis
Support internal audits, external audits, and certification requirements
Reporting & Documentation
Prepare and maintain quality records, test certificates, and inspection reports
Submit quality performance reports to Plant Head / Technical Director
Use computer systems for data recording, reporting, and documentation
Required Qualifications & Experience:
Education:
B.Sc OR
Diploma / Degree in Mechanical Engineering
Experience:
Minimum
15 years
of experience in Quality Control within a structural rolling mill / steel plant
Technical Knowledge:
Strong understanding of structural steel sections (Angle, Beam, Channel, Rail, Flat, etc.)
Knowledge of raw materials (Billet, Bloom, Slab)
Familiarity with national and international quality standards
Computer Skills:
Basic to intermediate knowledge of computer operations (MS Office, reporting, data handling)
Key Skills:
