Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced strat, data scientist or machine learning engineer to join our Securities Services Quantitative Research team in Mumbai and be a part of the global Quantitative Research Group. The candidate will have a good understanding of statistical methods including machine learning and strong programming skills. The Securities Services QR team's mission is to combine cutting edge research with direct business impact for our institutional investor clients and internal stakeholders. The team aims to develop and maintain sophisticated mathematical and machine learning models, cutting-edge methodologies and infrastructure to improve the performance of algorithmic trading strategies and transform business practices. This position will bring scientific rigor and statistical methods to the challenges of product creation, development and improvement while focusing on scalability and robustness. In addition, we are providing on job training, intensive internal classroom training, and online courses, all given by our experienced quants. Your Impact You'll contribute to the strategic agenda to transform our investment bank into a data-led business and drive change through innovation and business process optimization using state-of-the-art machine learning techniques. Specially, you'll have the chance to:

  • Contribute to the business and client franchise; identify and generate revenue opportunities by communicating directly with stakeholders to understand business processes
  • Perform large-scale analysis on gigantic proprietary financial data from 1 trillion+ daily transactions to billions in cash holdings and trillions in client asset holding. This will involve cleaning and interpreting data and mining data to identify patterns and trends
  • Solve difficult, non-routine analysis problems, implement, and deliver quantitative models and/or data analytics that generate business value.
  • Drive projects end-to-end, from brainstorming and requirement specification, prototyping, data processing, data analysis to model development, coordinating with various partners across the Technology and Product space.
  • Leverage data visualisation to communicate quantitative insights to help key stakeholders, across the different LoBs of Securities Services, in better decision making.
  • Partner with Technology to deliver QR analytics to the business

About You
  • You demonstrate quantitative and problem-solving skills as well as research skills;
  • You have excellent practical data analytics skills on real data sets gained through hands-on experience, including familiarity with methods for working with large data and tools for data analysis (pandas, numpy, scikit, TensorFlow)
  • You demonstrate experience applying statistical and/or machine learning techniques in the financial industry
  • You are familiar with tools and methods of exploratory data analysis, visualization and modeling in Python e.g., pandas, scipy, sklearn, Jupyter
  • You quickly grasp business concepts outside immediate area of expertise and adapt to rapidly changing business needs;
  • You think strategically and creatively when faced with problems and opportunities. You always look for new ways of doing things;
  • You demonstrate good judgment - decision-making is your strong side;
  • You're attentive to detail and easily adaptable;
  • You have strong interpersonal skills - you listen and communicate in a direct, succinct manner;
  • Your excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, can engage and influence partners and stakeholders; You are good at communicating concepts and ideas, also via documentation, and you are keen to defend their validity and tailor messages to different audiences;

Desirables
  • Advanced degree (PhD, MSc or equivalent) in Probability theory, Statistics, Mathematical Finance or Engineering.; Relevant academic research publications a plus;
  • Work experience as a data engineer or a related field
  • You have demonstrated high level experience in methodologies and processes for managing large-scale databases
  • You demonstrate proficiency in code design and programming skills
  • Experience with data schemas and data structures would be useful in this role
  • Direct experience of agile software methodologies;
  • Orientation towards careful system and solution design and implementation;
  • Robust testing and verification practices;
