Quality Control:
? Develop and implement QC procedures for testing raw materials, in-process materials, and finished products.
? Ensure compliance with company, industry, and regulatory standards.
? Conduct and oversee mechanical and chemical testing to assess material properties like tensile strength, hardness, and chemical composition.
Data Analysis & Reporting:
? Analyse test results to ensure that products meet required specifications.
? Prepare detailed quality reports and communicate findings to production and management teams.
? Maintain accurate records of QC results, non-conformance reports, and corrective actions.
Continuous Improvement:
? Work with production teams to identify areas for improvement in processes and product quality.
? Lead quality improvement initiatives and root cause analysis to address quality issues.
? Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to reduce defects and non-conformances.
Team Leadership:
? Lead and mentor a team of lab technicians, ensuring proper training and development.
? Ensure adherence to safety standards in the lab and production areas.
? Manage staffing schedules and ensure proper coverage during all production shifts.
Collaboration:
? Collaborate with rolling mill production teams to ensure that quality standards are integrated into the production process.
? Interface with suppliers, customers, and external auditors on quality-related matters.
Basic Knowledge Requirements:
Metallurgy and Material Science:
Understanding of steel and other metals, including properties and behaviour under rolling mill conditions.
Quality Control Standards:
Familiarity with ISO, ASTM, and other industry standards relevant to steel production and rolling mills.
Laboratory Practices:
Basic understanding of laboratory equipment, safety protocols, and calibration procedures.
Problem-Solving:
Analytical skills to identify root causes of quality issues and develop corrective actions.
Technical Knowledge Requirements:
Rolling Mill Process Knowledge:
? Understanding of the hot and cold rolling processes.
? Knowledge of rolling mill equipment, including furnaces, rolling stands, and cooling systems.
? Awareness of process variables that impact quality (e.g., temperature, rolling speed, and tension).
Mechanical Testing:
? Proficiency in conducting tensile, impact, and hardness tests.
? Familiarity with test standards like ASTM E8 for tensile testing and ASTM E18 for hardness testing.
Chemical Testing:
? Experience with spectrometry, XRF (X-ray fluorescence), or other chemical analysis methods for determining material composition.
? Ability to interpret chemical analysis results and their impact on product performance.
Non-Destructive Testing (NDT):
? Knowledge of NDT techniques such as ultrasonic testing, radiography, or magnetic particle inspection to detect surface and internal defects.
Statistical Process Control (SPC):
? Familiarity with statistical tools to monitor and control production quality.
? Ability to apply SPC methods such as control charts, process capability analysis, and Six Sigma tools.
Software and Reporting Tools:
? Proficiency in using laboratory information management systems (LIMS).

Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy, Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum of 15-18 years of experience in a quality control role within a rolling mill or steel manufacturing environment.
Prior experience leading a team in a QC lab setting.
Strong knowledge of steel properties, rolling mill processes, and relevant industry standards.
