The QC Head is responsible for establishing, implementing, and monitoring the Quality Management System (QMS) across manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
1. Quality Management System (QMS)
Develop, implement, and maintain ISO-compliant QMS (ISO 9001 and other applicable standards).
Ensure preparation, control, and implementation of quality manuals, procedures, ITPs, SOPs, and quality records.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives and quality audits.
2. Manufacturing & Process Quality
Ensure quality control at all stages of fabrication, galvanizing, machining, and dispatch.
Monitor incoming material inspection, in-process inspection, and final inspection.
Ensure adherence to approved drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
3. Inspection & Testing
Oversee NDT activities (UT, RT, MT, PT) and dimensional inspections.
Ensure calibration and control of measuring instruments and gauges.
Review and approve inspection reports, test certificates, and compliance documents.
4. Welding & Galvanizing Quality
Ensure welding quality through WPS, PQR, and welder qualification records.
Monitor galvanizing processes, coating thickness, adhesion, and surface finish as per standards.
Ensure compliance with IS, ASTM, EN, and customer-specific standards.
5. Vendor & Subcontractor Quality
Evaluate, approve, and audit vendors and subcontractors from a quality perspective.
Ensure quality compliance of outsourced fabrication and galvanizing activities.
6. Customer & Third-Party Coordination
Coordinate with customers, consultants, and third-party inspection agencies (TPIA).
Manage customer inspections, stage inspections, and final acceptance.
Address customer complaints, NCRs, and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
7. Non-Conformance & CAPA
Review and close NCRs, customer complaints, and internal audit findings.
Conduct root cause analysis and ensure effective corrective and preventive actions.
8. Site Quality (Projects)
Support project teams with quality planning and execution at site.
Ensure site quality compliance for erection, installation, and commissioning activities.
Conduct site quality audits and inspections as required.
9. Team Leadership & Training
Lead, mentor, and develop the QC/QA team at plant and sites.
Conduct quality awareness and training programs for production and project teams.
10. Statutory & Documentation Compliance
Ensure compliance with statutory, safety-related quality requirements.
Maintain proper documentation for audits, client submissions, and certifications.
Qualifications & Experience
BE / BTech / Diploma in Mechanical / Civil / Metallurgy or related discipline.
8-10 years of experience in QA/QC in fabrication, galvanizing, EPC, or heavy engineering industries.
Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of fabrication, welding, galvanizing, and structural steel quality.
Hands-on experience with ISO 9001, audits, and TPI coordination.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management abilities.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Reduction in rework, rejection, and customer complaints.
Audit compliance and certification status.
On-time inspection clearance and dispatch.
Effectiveness of CAPA and continuous improvement initiatives.
Authority & Accountability
Authority to stop production or dispatch in case of quality non-compliance.
Accountable for overall quality performance of manufacturing and project execution.
