with strong experience in shipbuilding, ship repair, marine engineering, and heavy fabrication industries. The ideal candidate should be capable of independently handling all quality-related activities, ensuring compliance with industry standards, class requirements, and client specifications.
Key Responsibilities
1. Quality Assurance & Control
Implement and monitor all quality procedures as per company standards and project specifications.
Conduct inspections at all stages of fabrication, welding, machining, and onboard ship repair jobs.
Ensure compliance with standards such as ASTM, ASME, AWS, IACS, and relevant ship classification society rules.
Verify material certificates, WPS, PQR, and welder qualifications before job execution.
2. Onboard & Workshop Inspections
Perform daily QC inspections for ship repair works including steel renewal, structural repairs, mechanical jobs, and outfitting.
Carry out fit-up, dimensional checks, visual inspection, alignment checks, and final inspections.
Coordinate with ship staff, surveyors, CSL officers, and clients for inspection clearances and approvals.
3. Documentation & Reporting
Prepare and maintain QC documents such as:
Inspection & Test Plans (ITP)
WPS/PQR records
Welder qualification records
NDT reports
Material traceability reports
Daily inspection reports
Maintain documentation for class approvals (IRS / DNV / ABS / LR / BV etc.).
Prepare final QC dossiers and handover documents upon job completion.
4. Coordination & Communication
Liaise with operations, production, welding, NDT teams, and procurement departments.
Follow up with subcontractors and internal teams to ensure timely closure of NCRs.
Participate in client meetings, technical discussions, and inspection planning.
5. NDT & Compliance
Coordinate NDT activities (MPI, UT, RT, PT) and verify reports.
Ensure corrective/preventive actions are taken for non-conformities.
Ensure strict adherence to safety and quality management systems (ISO standards preferred).
Desired Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge in welding processes (SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW) and steel fabrication.
Ability to read and interpret ship drawings, standards, and specifications.
Good understanding of classification society rules and marine quality standards.
Excellent report writing, documentation, and communication skills.
Proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently.
Eligibility
Diploma / Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
2 - 7 years of relevant QC experience in shipbuilding, ship repair, or heavy fabrication industry.
Certifications in
NDT Level II (UT, MPI, DP, RT)
preferred.
Experience with class survey requirements (IRS / DNV / ABS / LR / BV etc.) is an added advantage.
