The Quality Lab Chemist is responsible for conducting chemical analysis and tests on raw materials, in-process materials, and finished products to ensure meet the required quality standards.
This role includes sampling, testing, and documenting results, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, quality standards, and internal protocols.
The Lab Chemist plays a key role in maintaining the integrity of the plant's products and ensuring continuous improvement in processes.
Key Responsibilities:
A.
Raw Material (Wheat) Quality Control
Conduct sampling and testing of incoming wheat as per standard procedures.
Check physical parameters: moisture, impurities, shriveled grains, insect infestation, and damaged kernels.
Verify wheat variety, grade, and supplier quality compliance.
Coordinate with procurement for acceptance or rejection decisions.
B.
In-Process Quality Checks
Monitor parameters during cleaning, conditioning, milling, and sortex stages.
Ensure machine performance (e.g., magnet, de-stoner, color sorter) meets quality standards.
Record process quality data (temperature, moisture, magnet test results).
Implement process adjustments based on lab test feedback.
C. Finished Product (Flour mill & Sortex Wheat) Analysis
Conduct routine tests:
- Flour: Moisture, ash, gluten, protein, water absorption, granulation, color, and microbiological parameters.
- Sortex Wheat: Purity, color defects, moisture, and absence of foreign material.
Ensure finished products meet customer specifications and FSSAI limits.
Prepare and issue Certificate of Analysis (COA) for dispatch lots.

. Documentation & Record Keeping
Maintain lab records, test reports, calibration logs, and sample retention.
Ensure traceability of test results to specific production batches.
Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly quality summary reports.
Assist in internal/external audits (FSSAI, ISO 22000, HACCP, etc.).

Calibration & Equipment Maintenance
Calibrate and maintain lab instruments such as moisture analyzer, gluten apparatus, balance, colorimeter, and sieve shakers.
Maintain calibration schedules and preventive maintenance records.
F.
Hygiene & Safety
Follow Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
Ensure lab cleanliness, sample disposal, and adherence to personal hygiene standards.
Support pest control and sanitation monitoring programs.
G.
Quality System & Continuous Improvement
Participate in process improvement and quality enhancement initiatives.
Train operators and sortex staff on basic quality parameters.
Report deviations and assist in root cause analysis for non-conformities.

Familiar with laboratory testing instruments and methods.
Analytical and problem-solving ability.
Good documentation and reporting skills.
Team coordination and communication with production & procurement departments.
2.1 Compliance & Regulatory Adherence:
Ensure all testing procedures comply with relevant industry standards (e.g., ISO, GMP, HACCP) and regulatory requirements.
Stay updated on changes to regulatory standards and ensure laboratory practices adhere to them.
Ensure that safety protocols are followed during testing and that hazardous materials are handled in compliance with safety regulations.
Ensure proper waste disposal of chemicals and samples in compliance with environmental regulations.
2.2 Laboratory Maintenance & Safety:
Maintain cleanliness and organization within the laboratory to avoid contamination and ensure efficiency.
Ensure that all laboratory instruments and equipment are regularly calibrated, serviced, and properly maintained.
Maintain inventory of chemicals, reagents, and consumables required for testing and ensure timely reordering.
Adhere to all laboratory safety guidelines, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and proper chemical handling procedures.
